It’s pretty unthinkable that Watford being taken over would be a major news story but the media interest in both Elton and Robert Maxwell meant that the proposed sale of the club to Maxwell’s printing company BPCC was big news, particularly because he already owned Oxford United and Derby County. The fact that a deal appeared to be done just before we played Oxford only added to the interest. Eventually the deal would fall through.
