15th February 2011-Championship, Watford 2 Preston North End 2 Leave a Reply Preston threw away a two-goal lead to leave manager Phil Brown still searching for his first win since taking over at the rock-bottom Championship club. Every series of Masterchef – mmm, topical – has an awful lot of contestants. That being the case, a helping hand is provided in the shape of a short, simple label for us to remember each one by, a three-words-or-less summary of their entire existence prior to having their life changed by cooking scallops with a minted pea puree for Greg and Jeff. (I know it’s not Jeff, but I can’t be bothered to look it up.) Share this:TwitterFacebook
1st February 2011-Championship, Watford 1 Crystal Palace 1 Leave a Reply http://watford.fcdb.info/index.php?page=matches Crystal Palace moved out of the Championship drop-zone after a battling draw at Watford. Watford took the lead through Andreas Weimann, on loan from Aston Villa, when he volleyed in Andros Townsend’s ball from the left. Palace equalised when James Vaughan collected the ball from Neil Danns before jinking his way past Adrian Mariappa and firing past Scott Loach. Evening Standard, 2 Feb 2011 Briefly, as Andros Townsend wriggled through on the left and Andreas Weimann swivelled to score, this promised to be rather fun. But Palace are nothing if not a damp squib: that was as much space and time as they were prepared to afford us, and our attacking efforts were increasingly frustrated by the two holding midfielders wedged in front of the defence like a chair under a door handle. That’s the way to play us, no question. It’s dull as a muddy puddle, but it works. https://www.soccerbase.com/matches/results.sd?date=2011-02-01 https://www.11v11.com/league-tables/league-championship/01-february-2011/ Share this:TwitterFacebook

28th August 2010- Championship, Watford 0 Leeds United 1 Leave a Reply http://watford.fcdb.info?id=4922 Leeds captain Richard Naylor hit the winner in his 450th career appearance to end Watford’s unbeaten start to the season in a poor game at Vicarage Road. Leeds United made it back-to-back Championship victories as captain Richard Naylor struck to end Watford’s unbeaten start to the season. The sort of game, frankly, that I was dreading in the summer. Leeds weren’t particularly better than us – but they were bigger, stronger and, crucially, one goal up for most of the game. Share this:TwitterFacebook
9th February 2010- Championship, Watford 2 Bristol City 0 Leave a Reply First-half goals from Heidar Helguson and Martin Taylor gave Watford a deserved victory over Bristol City. Five thunks from the first League win over City since Boxing Day 1998, Gifton at the corner flag and so forth. Yes, really. Share this:TwitterFacebook
2nd February 2010- Championship, Watford 3 Sheffield United 0 Leave a Reply http://watford.fcdb.info/index.php?page=matches Daily Telegraph, 3 Feb 2010 Poor defending contributed to the Blades’ defeat as Tom Cleverley took advantage of sloppy play to open the scoring before half-time. Heidar Helguson capitalised on more slack defending from the visitors to score the second before Don Cowie completed the scoring from a free-kick. How very badly did we need to play against a side as accommodating as the Blades. For twenty minutes we looked quite tentative, and then… it wasn’t merely a matter of noting that our opponents weren’t as good as their position suggested. More that a United side comprised of a pick-and-mix of second tier journeymen (many of them ours…) scrawled this in large, difficult to miss paint-spray all over their penalty area every time a ball went anywhere near it. Nonetheless, it took an unchallenged flap from Mark Bunn and a couple of unexploited free headers before we realised that this was there for the taking, and took it increasingly confidently.
