BBC: An extraordinary goal by Wesley Hoedt clinched victory for Watford at Hull.

Sky: The Hornets captain nicked possession off Liam Delap just inside Hull’s half before executing a perfect lob over Ryan Allsop after 74 minutes.

Watford Observer: RECAP: Hull City 1 Watford 2

Hoedt’s wonder goal and Hamer’s penalty save set up great away win

Fran’s Watford Blog: Hamer had a brilliant game.  The penalty save is what will be remembered, but Philogene had created several other decent chances for the home side, so Ben was called on to make some tricky saves and rose to the challenge on each occasion.  So much so that he now has a song.  The others all played their parts, but Hoedt’s wonder goal will live long in the memory.  He had a great game in defence but usually when he shapes to shoot, I wince.  I will not do that again.  The team spirit appears strong, and I love the little dance that Andrews and Koné have done together at the end of the last two games.

From the Rookery End: After a comeback home won against Norwich, in the week, and an away win at Hull that was topped off with a wonder goal from Wesley Hoedt, Jon and Colin Mace gathered to discuss which Watford player had the best week? Or was it Valerian who had the best week?

Post Match

It is really important to remain positive and adopt a glass-half-full mentality after this tough, challenging year so we’ll do just that here. Watford extended their handy little run to one defeat in ten matches with a point here at the City Ground and made ground on the top two during this latest quick-fire round of fixtures in the Championship.

A resolute defensive display helped Nottingham Forest end a run of three straight defeats as they held promotion-chasing Watford to a 0-0 draw at the City Ground.

Watford remain in third, having failed to capitalise on leaders Norwich’s defeat by Luton Town.

Sorry.  No.  Just no.  Not that we were dreadful.  Not that an away point at Forest is a disastrous, not that we deserved any more (even against a ragbag bunch of whinging ghosts of Championship past – Arter, Knockaert even more objectionable with a silly little beard, Lolley less objectionable and admirably gutsy but an echo of a miserable afternoon).

We weren’t sure how to react to The Hornet draw away at Forest but Jon, Mike and Colin discuss the match and try to find answers to the consistent away record – as in not that impressive and what effect the returning crowd will have at Vicarage Road, on Saturday.

sky Tottenham were forced to settle for a point at Watford after coming from behind and then having Davinson Sanchez sent off in a feisty 1-1 draw at Vicarage Road.

guardian What conclusions should be drawn from this bracing encounter between two teams determined to give no quarter? Was it two points dropped for Spurs as their run without a Premier League win extended to four matches? Or was it a point earned, after being forced to play most of the second half with 10 men? For Watford, should they have taken greater advantage of the dismissal of Davinson Sánchez in the 52nd minute? Or had they proven they can go toe to toe with the big teams and compete?

TelegraphIt is rare that a referee gets booed off the pitch by both sets of fans, but Martin Atkinson managed to upset the supporters of Watford and Tottenham at the end of a hard-fought draw in which the visitors had to play almost 40 minutes with ten men.

BHappy image Football isn’t supposed to be played in the summer,   that’s the maxim.  It’s a winter sport.  The mental image of condensation on your breath, scarves and hats, cups of bovril, stamping your feet to keep warm is a romantic one, the clichéd “can they hack it on a December midweek in Stoke” a derisive put-down to your fancy dan foreign types.  They can’t, is the implication.  Not being British obviously makes them inferior because they don’t make them tough wherever it is that they’re from whereas we’ve done it.  We’ve been to Stoke midweek, braved the elements and the parking and the food, and we’re tougher for it.  It’s still bollocks though.  Cold isn’t fun, cold and wet less so.  This is, admittedly, an intro that could have been more aptly stored up until Stoke away midweek in January… but the elements were an overriding consideration today as the clammy damp chill clung to your cheeks and any attempt to make a noise was muffled by suffocating condensation.  It was Spurs at home, a vitriolic bad-tempered affair typical of this fixture, and yet the atmosphere had none of Tuesday’s bravado.  Damp, cold.  Slightly sullen.

FranWhile we really should have had a last minute penalty, a draw was a fair result and I would certainly have taken a point before the game.  To be disappointed with a draw against Tottenham shows how far we have come and it was a very entertaining game.  We have played all of the top six now and have only been outplayed by Manchester City.  It will be a tough trip to Burnley next week, but the Premier League is finally a fun place for Watford fans and that is something to relish.

The Hornets Nest A cross from Richarlison from the left smacked the outstretched arm of Dier in the penalty area. 18,000 Watford fans cried “HANDBALL!” in unison along with the 11 players on the pitch. It was blatant and clear for all to see, unfortunately the only people who didn’t spot the offence were the officials.

Watford 1-1 Spurs Watford were held by a ten man Spurs on Saturday, in a surprisingly enjoyable game. Jon, Mike and Colin talk through the performance, the squad choices, the worst Watford home game ever and we look ahead to 8 games in 32 days.

At last we get to see a genuine centre forward in a yellow shirt. It might only be Paul Wilkinson, older and wiser but still always offside, and there’s a temptation to feel disappointed about that, but he played a role in this victory, both as a target man and a decoy for the brilliant Phillips. In truth, it’s just a wonderful relief to know that there will be someone hanging around the six-yard box when we go forward. As long as it doesn’t exclude other possible signings, I’d happily see Wilko return to the Vic on a permanent basis. It took him less than a minute to get caught offside and have a go at the linesman – welcome back, mate!
