18th March 2023- Championship, Watford 1 Wigan Athletic 1 WFC.Net Goal Commentary: 1 Attendance: 18,523 BBC Sport: Wigan battled to a point with a rearguard display against Watford but remain six points from safety at the bottom of the Championship as their dismal run extended to just one win in 17 games. Sky Sports: James McClean’s 51st minute goal earned the visitors a point, after Keinan Davis had given the hosts the lead just before half-time. Fran’s Watford Blog: It was a very dispirited group that convened back at the West Herts. Yet again, we had failed to win a game that was there for the taking. The lively first half had given way to a more nervous second period in which the Hornets played far too many passes around the box and made far too few incursions in. The game wasn’t helped by an opposition that were time wasting from early in the first half. But we have played many such teams this season and really have to learn how to deal with these tactics. If ever there was a game which epitomised Sam Allardyce’s managerial Âcareer, this was it. When the pressure was on and only a result, not a performance, was needed, his players delivered.  It’s an extraordinarily bad game.  Creatively awful.  Sorry if you were hoping for more dramatic build up, more suspense than that. Too bad.  I sat through it, if you were hoping for drama then you clearly didn’t bloody do so and you’ll get what you’re given and like it. Share this:TwitterFacebook

18th March 2000- Premier League, Watford 1 Sheffield Wednesday 0 Leave a Reply A late goal from Allan Smart gave Watford the points in this battle between the Premiership’s worst two sides. It only takes a second to score a goal. It only takes a goal to win a game. It only takes a win to make my day….And it would only have taken a few more days like this to make a season. It’s tempting to write only about the last ninety seconds of this game. Watford played beautifully, Smart scored early thanks to a splendid assist from star forward Tommy Smith, then we defended stoutly and resolutely for the arduous and seemingly endless remainder of the game, displaying the excellent teamwork that has often been lacking, etc., etc. https://oldwatford.com/2015/05/02/2nd-may-2015-championship-watford-1-sheffield-wednesday-1/ More games from 18th March at https://oldwatford.com/tag/mar18 Share this:TwitterFacebook
