28th October 2006- Premier League, Watford 0 Tottenham Hotspur 0 Leave a Reply Watford remained winless in 10 league games after a lively, goalless draw against Tottenham at Vicarage Road. Some games are all about ifs and buts, and this was a good example. If the referee’s assistant had not disallowed what looked on re-inspection like a fair goal from Ashley Young four minutes before half-time for offside, Watford might have gained the first win of their new Premiership life. Or indeed, if the excellent Tommy Smith had been able to nudge an incoming cross under rather than over the bar from six yards out when it came to him in the first minute. 2nd October 2006- Premier League, Watford 3 Fulham 3 Leave a Reply Ashley Young’s dramatic late volley salvaged a point for Watford after an extraordinary climax at Vicarage Road. Watford had looked on course for a much-needed first Premiership win of the season, and an escape from the relegation zone, when they led 2-0 with only 19 minutes remaining, but nerves got the better of them and they were eventually thankful for Ashley Young’s late equaliser after conceding three goals in a nightmarish 16-minute period in the second half.
