24th July 2021- Friendly, Watford 0 West Bromwich Albion 0

With Covid restrictions now eased supporters were allowed to attend a match at Vicarage Road for the first time since December.

Official Site: Xisco Muñoz’s long-awaited introduction to the Watford faithful and the return of supporters into Vicarage Road didn’t coincide with an absolute classic on the pitch, but the occasion itself was more than worth it for both sets of fans who made the trip.

With Troy Deeney absent, Matej Vydra gave Hornets fans a timely reminder of his goal-scoring capabilities as he netted the only goal in Watford’s 1-0 pre-season victory at Boreham Wood.

As we gathered at Meadow Park, the news on everyone’s lips was that Deeney was absent from the squad.  The conclusion was that we had seen the last of him in a Watford shirt, which is a great shame but, if it does come, nobody can deny that the lad deserves his move.  Since our last visit the ground has undergone a transformation, with the covered terrace along one side of the ground replaced with a shiny new stand.

24th July 2013- Friendly, Peterborough United 1 Watford 1

As I travelled up to Peterborough, I couldn’t help remembering our trip there in April.  That was a truly horrendous performance, memorable for being one of very few last season, so I was hoping for a lot more entertainment on this trip.  On previous visits to London Road, I have always stood on the terraces.  So I was rather disappointed that only the seating area was open for away fans, but at least I could see what was going on.  The last match report that I wrote from this venue was mostly guesswork.

Gianfranco Zola secured his first win as Watford manager tonight against Cork City, as travelling supporters caught their first glimpses of loanees Steve Leo Beleck and Ikechi Anya.

24th July 2010- Friendly, Northampton Town 3 Watford 3

Malky Mackay was set to seek some answers from his players at training today after criticising a lack of “passion” during the first-half performance in the 3-3 pre-season friendly draw at Northampton Town.
