17th January 2015- Championship, Watford 5 Charlton Athletic 0 Leave a Reply Goals: 1 2 3 4 5 Craig Cathcart fired the hosts ahead before Troy Deeney doubled their advantage with a cool finish after Gabriele Angella’s high through ball. Odion Ighalo slotted in from close range just before half-time and later headed in Daniel Tozser’s corner. Tozser himself added a late fifth with a curling, 25-yard free-kick to complete a torrid day for the visitors. If anything, the margin of defeat flattered the visitors as the Hornets carved out a succession of opportunities and could easily have scored more goals had their finishing been better and Addicks goalkeeper Neil Etheridge not made some fine saves. Today was a good day. The sun shone, a beautiful crisp winter’s day which saw early gentle snowfalls melt away, no wind, no bite, a day to grin at the aggressively blue sky. Vicarage Road looked fabulous in front of its biggest crowd for nearly seven years in – count them – four stands. “Your Song” rumbled around Vicarage Road before kick-off and, whilst Charlton started quite brightly and the early exchanges suggested a punchy end-to-end encounter it didn’t take long for the game’s pattern to establish itself. Troy Deeney played a wicked through-ball to release Anya, the Addicks’ defence fell apart like a house of cards, Chris Solly took a yellow by snatching at the escaping wing-back and that was pretty much that. Our worst performances tend to have been followed directly by defiance like this since Slav’s arrival and Charlton were the fall guys. This was the bit of being “inconsistent” that is to be enjoyed. There are worse things than being inconsistent after all… https://www.soccerbase.com/matches/results.sd?date=2015-01-17 https://www.11v11.com/league-tables/league-championship/17-january-2015/ Share this:TwitterFacebook
14th September 2013-Championship, Watford 1 Charlton Athletic 1 Leave a Reply Watford came from a goal behind to secure a draw at home to Charlton, but they remain without a win in their past four matches. report:It’s not a brand new thing, but it’s splendid to hear the subs bench announced and to think “wow, I wish he was playing”. http://watford.fcdb.info?id=5075 Share this:TwitterFacebook

31st July 2010-Friendly, Watford 0 Charlton Athletic 1 Leave a Reply Watford signed off their pre-season campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Charlton Athletic at Vicarage Road this afternoon. An early goal from Danny Graham, with his fourth of the summer making him the top scorer of the warm-up matches, was to prove enough as the Hornets encouragingly completed back-to-back wins with successive clean sheets. 7th March 2009- Championship, Charlton Athletic 2 Watford 3 Leave a Reply Watford eased their relegation fears with a win against a Charlton side who slipped further towards the drop. Don Cowie had given the Hornets a 17th-minute lead before on-loan striker Tresor Kandol’s well-taken brace turned the game in Charlton’s favour before half-time. Watford drew level through Grzegorz Rasiak before Priskin struck seven minutes from time to secure a fourth win in five games for Brendan Rodgers’ side. Both clubs have new managers since they met in August with higher ambitions. Two seasons ago they played a goalless draw here in the Premier League in front of 27,000. Under the sinking circumstances it says much for Charlton and their fans that they have not fallen below 20,000. Some blinding goals for the Golden Boys. Make sure that you catch Rasiak’s if you weren’t there. Or even if you were. Wallop. And Priskin’s wonderful winner… my brother’s celebratory text informing a friend of developments contained a single word that said everything. 16th August 2008- Championship, Watford 1 Charlton Athletic 0 Leave a Reply http://watford.fcdb.info?id=4816 Tommy Smith’s fierce strike gave Watford victory over 10-man Charlton. BBC-SPORT-_-Football-_-Championship-_-Watford-1-0-CharltonDownload New passing game, new passing formation. Fine. But the real benefit thus far has been the protection afforded the defence. It speaks volumes that on a day when John Eustace was below par, Charlton rarely got more than a sniff – having Eustace and Williamson, fantastic today, as two sitting midfielders makes us a whole lot more secure. It does ask a lot of the four attacking players though (4-3-3 my arse). Speaking of whom…. https://www.soccerbase.com/matches/results.sd?date=2008-08-16 https://www.11v11.com/league-tables/league-championship/16-august-2008/ Share this:TwitterFacebook
19th January 2008- Championship, Watford 1 Charlton Athletic 1 Leave a Reply The first game since Al Bangura won his appeal to be allowed to remain in the UK. After 19 games record signing Nathan Ellington finally scored his first goal for the Hornets. Nathan Ellington scored his first goal for the club since his summer move when he coolly steered home from 12 yards. At the end of a busy week Aidy Boothroyd could reflect that more by luck than design his team had squeezed back into the automatic promotion places on goal difference but the Watford manager cannot wait for the month to end so he can get back to the business of priming his squad for the run-in. Well that was quite good fun really. Wouldn’t have been fun in the Premiership… we’d have been two down and game over at half time. I don’t know if it is football in general – the continuing failure of the National team, the increasingly hard to stomach Sky TV hype and equally nauseating commentary, Andy Gray (both of them), the wonky kick off times etc. – but (whisper it) I think I am losing interest a bit. http://watford.fcdb.info/index.php Share this:TwitterFacebook
3rd March 2007- Premier League, Watford 2 Charlton Athletic 2 Leave a Reply Darren Ambrose scored a dramatic late equaliser as Charlton recovered from two goals down to rescue a point. The Hornets led 2-0 at half-time after Hameur Bouazza finished from close range and Damien Francis powered in Tommy Smith’s cross. From the neutral’s point of view a point apiece was an unsatisfactory outcome for these struggling teams. Both surely needed a victory to entertain serious hopes of avoiding the drop. Alan Pardew and Adrian Boothroyd, however, saw plenty of positives to come out of an absorbing and entertaining match. In the first half Watford finally seemed ready to take flight, but again the fog descended. The clouds have rarely lifted from this corner of Hertfordshire of late, but the good news is that clouds in this division are lined not with silver but gold, and lots of it. Boothroyd will surely aim for the skies again next season and he should at least be able to afford some expensive ammunition. Your one word match report is: positive. https://www.soccerbase.com/matches/results.sd?date=2007-03-03 https://www.11v11.com/league-tables/premier-league/03-march-2007/ Share this:TwitterFacebook
30th July 2005- Alec Chamberlain’s Testimonial Match, Watford 1 Charlton Athletic 2 Leave a Reply A Francis Jeffers penalty and a Danny Murphy free-kick ensured victory for Charlton in a testimonial for Watford goalkeeper Alec Chamberlain. BSAD report: Reading the souvenir programme once again impressed on me the wisdom of his signing, for a relative pittance, and how often his steadying presence has helped us.
