BBC: Mileta Rajovic scored a 92nd-minute equaliser for Watford as they fought back to seal a Championship draw against managerless Millwall.

Sky: The burly Danish forward nodded in an Imran Louza cross to cancel out a late Wes Harding header and keep both sides entrenched in mid-table.

Frustration as Hornets salvage point with late equaliser

BHappy: On the hour, the now customary triple sub (and as an aside, I still fancy that the disciplined rotating of legs in the midfield in particular has contributed to, touching wood, a very favourable injury record this season).  On came Rajović, Louza and Martins…  and almost immediately we lost our footing.  Millwall, perhaps, contributed to this… taking advantage of a third of our outfield players having been swapped to up their own energy and force us backwards with their own best spell as our new guys got up to speed with a game that had been verging on volatile from the start.

Fran’s Watford Blog: It was another improved performance.  The tedium of a few weeks ago has been replaced by a team with much more attacking intent, although some of the defensive frailties remain.  The run of unbeaten games may only have stretched to three before Saturday, but it has brought with it an increasing confidence that manifests itself in more attacking play.  The return of Sema has certainly added something as he is never afraid to try to beat a player and he makes things happen.  I was also pleased that Asprilla put in a good showing after starting, proving that he isn’t just an impact sub.  The triple substitution was maybe not Ismaël’s best decision as the three who were replaced had all been playing well.  But it was inattentiveness at set pieces which let us down again.

BBC SportDarren Fletcher said victory at Watford was “what was needed” as Stoke City held on to win away from home for the first time this season.

skyStoke enjoyed their first Premier League away win of the season to ease the pressure on Mark Hughes as Darren Fletcher’s sweetly-struck volley was enough to seal a 1-0 win over Watford.

guardianMark Hughes told Troy Deeney he “should know better” after the Watford captain sparked a late melee in their 1-0 Premier League defeat by Stoke City. In stoppage-time Stoke put the ball out of play after a player went down injured, but rather than pass the ball back Deeney appeared to attempt a cross into the visitors’ penalty area. Joe Allen reacted angrily but found himself being grabbed by the face by the burly Hornets striker.

TelegraphDarren Fletcher scored his first goal for Stoke to settle a closely-fought contest at the high-flying Hornets.

BHappy imageMuch as we tried to convince ourselves that this was going to be a case of New Watford putting a struggling side to the sword, the day hadn’t felt right.  Wonky. Our reserved table set for the wrong number of places at the restaurant.  Harry the Hornet heading resignedly into the Red Lion pre-match.  Empty seats in the stadium.  Lots of them, despite what was officially a 20k+ gate.   And a confused pre-match process involving a bagpipe recital and a minute’s silence in recognition of Remembrance Day in which nobody seemed quite sure what was happening.  Wrong.  Wrong.

FranBack to Vicarage Road again and, after a busy week, it was lovely to sit down with the crowd for the pre-match pint.  I bumped into someone that I hadn’t seen for a while, a regular who had almost given up in the dark days at the end of Mazzarri’s reign.  He was all smiles again, thoroughly enjoying the football as we all are.  I must admit that, going into this game I was less confident than last week against Chelsea.  There is something about Stoke and their negative style of play that made me think that we could struggle.

The Hornets NestStoke.  At home.  What could possibly go wrong?  Well, everything. Absolutely everything.

Jon, Mike and Jason are joined by old friend Curtis from Denver, who’s not been at Vicarage Road for a few years. We didn’t get to see the Watford we’ve fallen in love with, and they boys do their best to talk through the game and get past how Stoke Stoke were.

BBC SportWatford remained winless in 10 league games after a lively, goalless draw against Tottenham at Vicarage Road.

IndependentSome games are all about ifs and buts, and this was a good example. If the referee’s assistant had not disallowed what looked on re-inspection like a fair goal from Ashley Young four minutes before half-time for offside, Watford might have gained the first win of their new Premiership life. Or indeed, if the excellent Tommy Smith had been able to nudge an incoming cross under rather than over the bar from six yards out when it came to him in the first minute.

28th October 2000- New Division One, Wolverhampton Wanderers 2 Watford 2

http://watford.fcdb.info/index.php?page=matches

BBC Sport: Wolves unsettled the First Division leaders for the second successive Saturday as they upset Watford just as they had Fulham seven days ago.

Sunday Telegraph, 29 Oct 2000
Daily telegraph, 30 Oct 2000

BSAD: Don’t be fooled by the times of the goals. Really, this wasn’t a game of two halves at all – Wolves dominated for long periods before the interval and the half-time score flattered our overall performance, if not our decisive finishing. Even so, the comeback was thoroughly disappointing. Having taken the lead, we showed a disturbing lack of resilience in letting it slip.

BSAD: Maybe expectations are too high, certainly nicking a point at Wolves would have been a great result a couple of years ago. But I have been thinking that too much lately and it is a touch depressing that our fleeting moments of fluency are enough to get us by, along with an uncharacteristic amount of luck, in what is a characteristically poor First Division.
