27th January 1997- New Division Two, Luton Town 0 Watford 0

The Guardian, 28 Jan 1997

In the end, then, it was a draw that we fought hard for. The defence takes most credit for keeping Luton at bay even when they seemed certain to score. But the disappointment in the failure to beat our local rivals for the umpteenth time in the last ten years rather dwarfs any satisfaction from the result – a win against Luton would represent such a massive morale boost, yet once again the opportunity has slipped away.

21st January 1997- FA Cup Third Round, Watford 2 Oxford United 0

The weather caused lots of postponements at the beginning of the year. This game was originally scheduled for 4th January, then the 14th and eventually played a week later. Even then it didn’t kick off until 8.30pm due to a floodlight failure.

Performance of the season. By a bloody mile. The quality of the opposition, more than an entire league above us, doesn’t matter – this was the best we’ve played against anyone in this campaign. Oxford were rubbish, of course, but the point is that we made them look rubbish.

I assume ‘aggl’ means a Golden goal but I might be wrong.
