4th June 2020- Premier League: Five substitutes approved for rest of 2019-20 season

Premier League teams will be able to make five substitutions, rather than three, in each match to the end of the season after clubs approved new rules. Teams will also be able to name nine substitutes instead of the usual seven.

4th June 2009- Brendan Rodgers leaves Watford to become Reading manager

The previous month when Reading had sacked Steve Coppell, Rodgers repeatedly denied he was going to leave. His most notable denial was reported in the Watford Observer article shown below. However on this day he walked out of Vicarage Road to take over at the Madjeski. He lasted just over six months and was sacked on the 16th December with Reading 21st in the Championship. The Hornets met Rodgers’ Reading side just once, a 1-1 away draw in September. Most of the chants from the Hornets fans that day referred to his integrity.
