Sky: Callum O’Hare was the match-winner, poking into an empty net just before the hour-mark to secure a first home win of the campaign for the Blades.

Frans Watford Blog: It was a disappointing game. The Hornets had 60% possession, but most of it was in their own half. There was far too much playing around at the back from Pollock and Selvik who, quite frankly, look terrified when doing it, especially in the second half when, knowing the tactic, the United forwards started pressing them. Kjerrumgaard had a very disappointing day, unable to create much and the chances that he did have were poorly executed. Irankunda looked tired, which is unsurprising after his international involvement during the week. Wiley had a good game, but we are all rueing his miss. Still, it was good to see the crowd applauding the players and singing Gracia’s name after the final whistle.

From the Rookery End: Jon, Jordi, and Colin get stuck into Watford’s their first impressions of the second Javi Gracia Era. The guys chat about what his return might mean for the team’s identity and how things unraveled in that frustrating match against Sheffield United. From puzzling lineup choices to questions about tactics, they don’t hold back. With some big games coming up, the pressure’s on Gracia to find a spark — and fast.

18th October 2008- Championship, Southampton 0 Watford 3

Watford goalkeeper Richard Lee saved two penalties to ensure his side were comfortable winners at Southampton. Lee brought down David McGoldrick but made amends by saving the spot-kick and Tamas Priskin compounded the miss by stabbing the opener for Watford. Saints won their second penalty when Adrian Mariappa fouled Ryan Smith but Paul Wotton was also denied by Lee.

Jon Harley put in a deep cross from the left which was met by Mathew Sadler who laid the ball into the path of Priskin and he stabbed the ball home from inside the penalty area.

Form and a glance at the teamsheet suggested that a painfully young Southampton side might cause us a few problems going forward, but a back four with an average age of nineteen was there to be pressured and bullied.

18th October 2003- New Division One, Watford 1 Bradford City 0

Scott Fitzgerald’s fourth goal of the season gave Watford a deserved victory against their fellow Division One strugglers. The Hornets dominated but had to wait until the 61st minute for the breakthrough when Fitzgerald converted Micah Hyde’s cross.

It would be very easy indeed to get carried away by this most comprehensive of victories. We shouldn’t, for it is impossible to escape the fact that Bradford were utter drivel, barely bothering to turn up for a match that quickly became almost farcical. Before kickoff, you looked over to the Vic Road end to pick out a few meagre handfuls of away supporters, clustered like flea-bitten regulars around the bar of a particularly dingy, long-forgotten backstreet pub. After kickoff, you realised that travelling hundreds of miles to watch such a sorry bunch might not come top of your things-to-do list either. They were simply dreadful.

BSAD imageYou win some, you lose some. We won some – the Watford mailing list team achieving a mighty 2-1 victory at Spurs on Saturday morning. And we lost some – the other Watford team blowing a chance to open up a really serious gap at the top of Division Two.
