30th July 2014- Watford 0 Coventry City 1 (played at Meadow Park, Boreham Wood FC)

The clip doesn’t include the Coventry goal

Six days after our last visit, we were back at Meadow Park for a game against Coventry.

Watford suffered their first defeat of pre-season as a disappointing Hornets performance resulted in a 1-0 defeat against Coventry City at Boreham Wood’s Meadow Park stadium.

26th July 2014- Friendly, St.Albans City 0 Watford 5

Watford ObserverTroy Deeney was a second-half substitute as Watford cruised to a comfortable 5-0 win at St Albans City.

When Saturday Comes: The St Albans City mascot makes his way to the bar area.

The main topic of discussion when the team was announced was the presence of Deeney on the bench.  None of our party really believe that he will be with us come the end of the transfer window so it felt like a treat to see him in a Watford shirt again.

With Troy Deeney absent, Matej Vydra gave Hornets fans a timely reminder of his goal-scoring capabilities as he netted the only goal in Watford’s 1-0 pre-season victory at Boreham Wood.

As we gathered at Meadow Park, the news on everyone’s lips was that Deeney was absent from the squad.  The conclusion was that we had seen the last of him in a Watford shirt, which is a great shame but, if it does come, nobody can deny that the lad deserves his move.  Since our last visit the ground has undergone a transformation, with the covered terrace along one side of the ground replaced with a shiny new stand.

23rd July 2014- Friendly, Wealdstone 0 Watford XI 0

The starting line-up was Bond, Young, Doherty, O’Nien, Johnson (c), Brown, Tapoko (trialist), Smith, Jakubiak, Rosenthal and Fabbrini.  Former Watford youngsters Jonathan North and Elliott Godfrey started for Wealdstone.  There was a nice gesture from the excellent tannoy announcer who welcomed Smith and O’Nien back, both having been there on loan in recent seasons.

Wealdstone website: A young Watford development side were held to a goalless draw by Wealdstone on a sultry summer’s evening at The Vale on Wednesday. Stones can be pleased with their energetic performance against a strong Hornets side sprinkled with professionals and some senior first team squad players.
