BSAD image BSAD report: There were many highlights of the glory years in the Taylor era, but Highbury away was definitely the last.

100 greatest100 Greatest Watford wins- No.21: The prologue to the explosive and controversial closing few minutes at Highbury had been written five months earlier.  The league game between Arsenal and Watford descended into farce when the referee, Brian Stevens, sent the goalkeeper, Tony Coton off.

8th March 1987- Division One, Watford 2 Everton 1

Finally another top flight win over the Toffees.  We had, of course, beaten Everton 2-0 in our very first game in Division One in August 1982.  Since then we’d faced them 9 times losing 8 and drawing once.  So this win in front of the Match Of The Day Live cameras was particularly satisfying.

In the programme Tim Adams asks ‘Is any single player worth a million pounds?’  Caroline Gillies, who was one of the main people responsible for delivering the image of ‘The Family Club’ leaves Vicarage Road.

2nd March 1987-FA Cup Fifth Round Second Replay, Walsall 0 Watford 1

I can’t remember who signed the front of the programme.  It belonged to my Dad’s friend who, after the final whistle, got chatting to people in the press box.  My Dad wouldn’t let me follow as he wanted to get away quickly because I had school the next day.  I remember my Dad’s friend being excited about whoever it was he’d met and he kindly gave me the programme as a souvenir.  Any suggestions as to who the signatures belong to would be greatly appreciated.
