report: I resent the loss of midweek games, the loss of that looking forward to a week of work being interrupted by this nugget of excitement (or Rotherham at home, whatever) simply to accommodate Manchester United (for example) losing to some Danish team in a bloated competition that will give them plenty of second chances anyway.

A very poor Hull City visited Vicarage Road and gave Jon, Jason and Mike plenty to talk about. That and a certain forged letter make it another one of those fun weeks to be a Watford fan. COME ON YOU ORNS!

report:There is always something special about the sense of anticipation in a pre-match crowd.  Also, as it was Watford playing Hull, there was neither a ticket tout nor a half-and-half scarf anywhere to be seen.

report:During half time Harry the Hornet was awarded the ‘Unsung Hero 2015/16’ award. It’s about time he was acknowledged for his efforts on a match day. With stunts ranging from celebrating with the players, to throwing away fan inflatables into the off-limits building site when the Sir Elton John stand was being built. Harry is real entertainment.

BHappy image report: Ten minutes in one of the blokes behind us announced that “this has got nil-nil written all over it”.  This was irritating… partly because it felt like a spoiler, partly because he was so obviously right and the sudden realisation, much as it had been staring us in the face since kick-off, deflated enthusiasm.

FTRE image Podcast:Jon and Jason are joined by Olly Wicken, author of Hornet Heaven, to talk about the match, but also the latest episode of Hornet Heaven, plus we put two objects in our list of Watford in 100 Objects.

screen-shot-2016-10-03-at-19-13-20report:Before kick-off, there was a minute’s silence to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Aberfan disaster.  I was very young indeed when it happened, but it still made a strong impression on me and, as an adult, the thought of a town losing a whole generation of children is beyond heartbreaking.  The silence was observed impeccably and it was good to see both teams wearing black armbands.

screen-shot-2016-10-30-at-15-22-53 report:The highlight of the first half came at the very end, when Capoue received a comical yellow card for physically lifting Leon Britton up off the pitch in an attempt to win the ball.

Jose Holebas’ fine strike settled a poor game as Watford’s victory left Middlesbrough still looking for a first home win of the Premier League season.

After a goalless first half that saw Antonio Barragan escape a sending off, the midfielder curled a delightful effort into the top corner nine minutes into the second period.

Watford had barely threatened all afternoon but took the lead with a far more convincing strike from Holebas. The Greek international stole the ball from Cristhian Stuani and lashed a shot inside Victor Valdes’ near post from 20 yards.

BHappy imagereport: games with Bournemouth have been terrific fun since their arrival in the Championship a few years ago: the pleasing openness of their football and the apparent decency of their manager don’t obscure more than an element of the irritable and irritating. There’s not no Boothroyd in their DNA.

screen-shot-2016-10-03-at-19-13-20 report:As we waited for the doors to open at the West Herts, we were thoroughly entertained by a fellow fan who knew Stuart Attwell’s father.

screen-shot-2016-10-30-at-15-22-53 report: Nothing needs to be said about past refereeing performances in games against Bournemouth and Mike Dean did his best to replicate his predecessors. An early yellow card for Prodl for handball after he was blatantly shoved to the floor by Wilson a prime example.
