The game was in aid of PC Jon Gordon who lost both his legs in the IRA car bombing of Harrods in December 1983.

The Non-League Club Directory lists the crowd as being 2,550 and as of 2013 was still the record attendance for a game at The Playing Fields, Mill Meadow.
