17th January 2009- Championship, Watford 0 Sheffield United 2 Leave a Reply Sheffield United extended their unbeaten run to eight games, thanks to ex-Watford striker Darius Henderson. After a frustrating opening period for the visitors, Henderson headed into the path of Danny Webber who swivelled and fired into the net. My brother speculated on the way back to the car that this may be the worst Watford team he has ever watched. I’d still have to cite Colin Lee’s late 1990 vintage as worse. But looking back, that side may have featured McLaughlin, Andy Kennedy, Mark Gavin… but it also featured David James, Gary Porter, Nigel Gibbs, Paul Wilkinson…. And the fact that we’re as much as having the conversation…??? https://www.soccerbase.com/matches/results.sd?date=2009-01-17 https://www.11v11.com/league-tables/league-championship/17-january-2009/ Share this:TwitterFacebook
27th August 2001-New Division One, Watford 2 Walsall 1 Leave a Reply http://watford.fcdb.info?id=4458 BSAD report: There’s a certain irony here. When we blew the top half of the First Division apart back in ’99, there were a few noses put out of joint. Thinking back, there are memories of familiar criticisms levelled at Graham Taylor’s style of play, its alleged reliance on big strikers and set pieces. Not just Trevor Francis either. 28th August 2000- New Division One, Watford 4 Sheffield United 1 Leave a Reply http://watford.fcdb.info?id=4406 Despite being without two of their most expensive signings and influential players, Watford romped to victory over Sheffield United at Vicarage Road. BSAD report: Four-one to the Golden Boys. Fond memories of similarly convincing scorelines against Swindon, Crewe and Stockport two years ago, back when life seemed so simple, the sun was always shining and Gifton was fit. Back when it was possible to be relaxed and happy as a game went into injury time, when it was conceivable that we might possess better individuals and score better goals than our opponents. With all due respect to Sheffield United, our first encounter with a recognisably run-of-the-mill First Division side was a singularly nostalgic experience. Another BSAD report: What an afternoon. The framework of the Wimbledon game having been laid, we put out a team that played as fluently as any for two years. And without Nielsen, or Wooter, or Johnno, or Kennedy. My God, we’re a squad. 17th September 2005- Championship, Watford 2 Sheffield United 3 Share this:TwitterFacebook
