20th March 1999- New Division One, Watford 0 Bury 0 Leave a Reply If you want an indication of the loyalty of the Watford fans, it is that nine thousand people did actually choose to spend their money on this, a football match that had absolutely nothing to recommend it. That’s the club’s core support right there – after all, roughly the same number turned up to see us against Crewe and Stockport, back when we were a good bet for some breezy Saturday afternoon entertainment. https://www.soccerbase.com/matches/results.sd?date=1999-03-20 https://www.soccerbase.com/matches/results.sd?date=1999-03-20 Share this: Share on X (Opens in new window) X Share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook
13th March 1999- New Division One, Oxford United 0 Watford 0 http://watford.fcdb.info/index.php?page=matches Sunday Mirror, 14 Mar 1999 Sunday People, 14 Mar 1999 BSAD: It is impossible to be completely bored at the Manor Ground, a wonderfully bizarre creation of the “pin the tail on the donkey” school of architecture. It’s a Tommy Cooper kinda stadium, if you know what I mean, and I have an inexplicable fondness for it (although possibly not eleven quid’s worth of fondness). Perhaps I like the place because there’s clearly no room for it in modern football, or perhaps it’s just that it can provide momentary distraction from a soggy, tasteless pudding of a game. https://www.soccerbase.com/matches/results.sd?date=1999-03-13 https://www.11v11.com/league-tables/league-division-1/13-march-1999/ Share this: Share on X (Opens in new window) X Share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook
6th March 1999- New Division One, Sheffield United 3 Watford 0 http://watford.fcdb.info/index.php?page=matches Sunday People, 7 Mar 1999 Sunday Mirror, 7 Mar 1999 BSAD: It defies logic really. Your side are completely outclassed… you have little imagination or penetration up front, are losing out in midfield, and are struggling at the back. Then you score twice just before half-time, and Bob’s yer uncle. United, it must be said, will have had unluckier days…. https://www.soccerbase.com/matches/results.sd?date=1999-03-06 https://www.11v11.com/league-tables/league-division-1/06-march-1999/ Share this: Share on X (Opens in new window) X Share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook
2nd March 1999- New Division One, Ipswich Town 3 Watford 2 Programme images courtesy of Matt Hall http://watford.fcdb.info/index.php?page=matches Daily Telegraph, 3 Mar 1999 It was a curious match, in a thoroughly depressing kinda way. Despite dominating for long periods, despite out-doing Ipswich in terms of goal attempts, we were strictly second best. In the final third, there was simply no comparison. The first half statistics said it all – three shots for Ipswich, of which two were goals and one forced Alec Chamberlain into a fine save; five shots for Watford, none of which required Richard Wright to move a muscle. That’s the difference. https://www.soccerbase.com/matches/results.sd?date=1999-03-02 https://www.11v11.com/league-tables/league-division-1/02-march-1999/ https://oldwatford.com/2019/03/03/3rd-march-2019-premier-league-watford-2-leicester-city-1/ Share this: Share on X (Opens in new window) X Share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook
