Live coverage of Lloyd Doyley’s testimonial between Watford and Tottenham Hotspur.

A decent turnout for a pre-season game, it’s reasonable to suppose that few were left on the edge of their seats by the spectacle. That’s what pre-season games are like of course, the pace tends to be rather lacking irrespective of the score or the standard… but limited as the excitement was, we acquitted ourselves reasonably well in the first half.

30th July 2005- Alec Chamberlain’s Testimonial Match, Watford 1 Charlton Athletic 2

A Francis Jeffers penalty and a Danny Murphy free-kick ensured victory for Charlton in a testimonial for Watford goalkeeper Alec Chamberlain.

BSAD image BSAD report: Reading the souvenir programme once again impressed on me the wisdom of his signing, for a relative pittance, and how often his steadying presence has helped us.

3rd August 2002-Nigel Gibbs Testimonial, Watford 0 Tottenham Hotspur 1

This was Nigel’s second testimonial match. The first was on 4th August 1993- Nigel Gibbs Testimonial, Watford 1 Queens Park Rangers 1

BSAD report: We all needed this, I think.  A very Watford day, really. Much as the occasion was in honour of Nigel Gibbs, a very Watford person, the benefit was shared with typical generosity. Here, we brought a traumatic summer to an end, we thumped the full stop key to halt a particularly complicated, grammatically-chaotic sentence. And it felt, well, all right again.

13th August 2002- New Division One, Watford 0 Millwall 0

10th May 1983- Ross Jenkins Testimonial Match, Watford 4 Luton Town 0

Graham Taylor and David Pleat chose to play full strength sides in Ross Jenkins testimonial despite the fact that both had a season defining game just four days later. We would need to beat Liverpool at home to be assured of UEFA Cup qualification whilst Luton needed to win at Manchester City to avoid relegation.
