BBC: Coventry City cemented top spot in the Championship and further enhanced their status as English football’s most potent attacking force with a 3-1 home victory over Watford.

Sky: It could have been a very different start to the afternoon but for Sky Blues stopper Carl Rushworth, who stood tall to deny Rocco Vata as the Watford winger was put through one-on-one a minute before Thomas-Asante’s opener.

Fran’s Watford Blog: Also, despite the score, we had seen a decent performance. The Hornets had been attacking with energy and had created enough chances to win the game, if it wasn’t for wasteful finishing and a good performance from Rushworth in the Coventry goal. Coventry may have stepped off the gas in the second half, they didn’t have a shot on target after the break, but that doesn’t detract from the fact that the Hornets never stopped attacking. Sadly, we were let down by some poor defending. But the difference between the teams was that Coventry were clinical in their finishing and we were not.

Frans Watford Blog: It was a disappointing game. The Hornets had 60% possession, but most of it was in their own half. There was far too much playing around at the back from Pollock and Selvik who, quite frankly, look terrified when doing it, especially in the second half when, knowing the tactic, the United forwards started pressing them. Kjerrumgaard had a very disappointing day, unable to create much and the chances that he did have were poorly executed. Irankunda looked tired, which is unsurprising after his international involvement during the week. Wiley had a good game, but we are all rueing his miss. Still, it was good to see the crowd applauding the players and singing Gracia’s name after the final whistle.

Guardian: The Uruguayan is said to have left dismayed by the decision to sack him having guided Watford to a three-match unbeaten run that also included a home win over Hull and a draw at Portsmouth and means they are three points off the playoff places.

That certainly raised the spirits. There was four minutes of added time at the end of the half during which Wiley won a corner. Ngakia’s delivery was on target and Cumming could only help it into the net to give Watford the lead. A brace for Ngakia!! Helik was booked for a foul on Irankunda. Louza took the resultant free kick, which was mishit and fell to Ngakia, who was now on a hat trick, the Rookery yelled “shooot”, but the half time whistle went.
