10th December 2011- Championship, Watford 1 Leeds United 1 Leave a Reply Robert Snodgrass scored an injury-time penalty as Leeds salvaged a draw against Watford in the Championship. It was cruel for the hosts as they had missed a penalty of their own with just two minutes of normal time remaining. Wolves loanee Michael Kightly scored the opening goal after 28 minutes and the hosts should have put the result beyond doubt but Marvin Sordell saw his spot-kick saved by Alex McCarthy before Snodgrass showed him how it was done deep into stoppage time, netting his fourth goal in three games. Let’s put the final exchanges of the game to one side for a minute.  They constitute an incontrovertibly key detail, of course, and we’ll get to them but they shouldn’t be at the front of our minds when looking back on today, not once the seething frustration has died down.  For this was a monstrous Watford performance;  not always pretty, and self-evidently not perfect, but vigorous, confident, bullish and single-minded.  Quite comfortably the best display of those witnessed by your BHaPPY correspondents this season, irrespective of the result. 29th November 2011- Championship, Watford 2 Bristol City 2 Leave a Reply Bristol City’s resurgence continued as they came from 2-0 down to earn a point at Watford, thanks largely to an error from home keeper Scott Loach. England Under-21 international goalkeeper Scott Loach let Adrian Mariappa’s back-pass slip under his foot and into the net to give the Robins an equaliser within 24 seconds of the second half on Tuesday night. And all of that hard graft? All of those training ground hours, days, weeks spent on defending as a unit, with the excellent Jonathan Hogg ahead of the back four and the wide midfielders tucked into the space in front of the full-backs? All of the rigour and cohesion and structure that Dyche has tried to bring to the party? (Are those things you bring to a party? No matter…) Hard not to wonder whether it’s all been worthwhile when you concede two goals as gormless as these, throwing away three very handy points in the process. http://watford.fcdb.info?s=40823&id=4986 Share this: Share on X (Opens in new window) X Share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook
19th November 2011- Championship, Watford 2 Portsmouth 0 Leave a Reply Michael Appleton’s reign as Portsmouth manager got off to a disappointing start with defeat at Watford. …a third consecutive home win and in its own way, as remarkable as the last two. http://watford.fcdb.info?s=37950&id=4984 Share this: Share on X (Opens in new window) X Share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook
1st November 2011- Championship, Watford 1 Brighton & Hove Albion 0 Leave a Reply A 77th-minute goal from Troy Deeney helped struggling Watford to an important win over Brighton. 23:45 London Charing Cross Station. It’s bloody late and it’s only going to get later. Somewhere ahead, two hours into the darkness at the end of the line, is Hastings, a warm, soft bed and what’ll remain of a night’s sleep. Here, there’s me and an old laptop with a fading battery and a tosser on a mobile phone talking very loudly about fancy dress costumes. Midweek games are brutal; commitment is required. http://watford.fcdb.info?s=35051&id=4982 Share this: Share on X (Opens in new window) X Share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook
29th October 2011- Championship, Watford 3 Peterborough United 2 Leave a Reply http://watford.fcdb.info?id=4981 Marvin Sordell’s first-half double helped lift Watford out of the Championship relegation zone. Watford-3-2-Peterborough-BBC-SportDownload There are three key reasons for the dramatic transformation in both our effectiveness and our watchableness; these will get the first three thunks.  The first was the early goal.  Only at Reading up to now had we got an early goal in a League game, and we hadn’t scored in front of an increasingly irritated and impatient home crowd before the 78th minute before this one.  Here,  particularly with elements of the crowd riled and ready to turn this game felt as if it could be a breaking point.  Mark Yeates’ drilled strike, capitalising on a defensive error but coming on the tail of a neat passing move as we started the game on the front foot, settled nerves, got the crowd square behind the team. https://www.soccerbase.com/matches/results.sd?date=2011-10-29 https://www.11v11.com/league-tables/league-championship/29-october-2011/ Share this: Share on X (Opens in new window) X Share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook
15th October 2011-Championship, Watford 0 Crystal Palace 2 Leave a Reply report report: with NOTHING coming into the gap between the opposition midfield and defence the strikers are playing perpetually with their backs to goal; the ball goes wide, then back to midfield, then wide, then we lose it. http://watford.fcdb.info?s=31800&id=4978 Share this: Share on X (Opens in new window) X Share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook
