29th November 2011- Championship, Watford 2 Bristol City 2

Bristol City’s resurgence continued as they came from 2-0 down to earn a point at Watford, thanks largely to an error from home keeper Scott Loach.

England Under-21 international goalkeeper Scott Loach let Adrian Mariappa’s back-pass slip under his foot and into the net to give the Robins an equaliser within 24 seconds of the second half on Tuesday night.

And all of that hard graft? All of those training ground hours, days, weeks spent on defending as a unit, with the excellent Jonathan Hogg ahead of the back four and the wide midfielders tucked into the space in front of the full-backs? All of the rigour and cohesion and structure that Dyche has tried to bring to the party? (Are those things you bring to a party? No matter…) Hard not to wonder whether it’s all been worthwhile when you concede two goals as gormless as these, throwing away three very handy points in the process.

BBC: Struggling Doncaster kept their second clean sheet of the season to earn a point against Watford.

BHappy: Bottom line, it’s an away point.  An away point against a limited, disjointed if unpredictable Doncaster side, but a point more than we’d accumulated from our previous four away trips.  In an open first half we fashioned plenty of chances;  Iwelumo put through to shank a shot into the stand, Kightly taking advantage of his marker backing off in the box to fire narrowly wide, Mariappa and Sordell both forcing a save from Ikeme with a sharp turn and shot, Yeates given space on the edge of the area to chest down and volley over a crowded penalty box to force another decent stop.  So… more than a little frustrating that for the fourth time in five away trips we failed to find the net.

BBC SportMichael Appleton’s reign as Portsmouth manager got off to a disappointing start with defeat at Watford.

BHappy image…a third consecutive home win and in its own way, as remarkable as the last two.

BBC SportA 77th-minute goal from Troy Deeney helped struggling Watford to an important win over Brighton.

BHappy image23:45 London Charing Cross Station. It’s bloody late and it’s only going to get later. Somewhere ahead, two hours into the darkness at the end of the line, is Hastings, a warm, soft bed and what’ll remain of a night’s sleep. Here, there’s me and an old laptop with a fading battery and a tosser on a mobile phone talking very loudly about fancy dress costumes. Midweek games are brutal; commitment is required.

29th October 2011- Championship, Watford 3 Peterborough United 2

http://watford.fcdb.info?id=4981

Marvin Sordell’s first-half double helped lift Watford out of the Championship relegation zone.

There are three key reasons for the dramatic transformation in both our effectiveness and our watchableness; these will get the first three thunks.  The first was the early goal.  Only at Reading up to now had we got an early goal in a League game, and we hadn’t scored in front of an increasingly irritated and impatient home crowd before the 78th minute before this one.  Here,  particularly with elements of the crowd riled and ready to turn this game felt as if it could be a breaking point.  Mark Yeates’ drilled strike, capitalising on a defensive error but coming on the tail of a neat passing move as we started the game on the front foot, settled nerves, got the crowd square behind the team.
