3rd November 1998- New Division One, Watford 1 Norwich City 1 Leave a Reply BSAD report: So, as an early spell of Norwich pressing faded away, the Hornets began to show their credentials, not as cocky newcomers but as genuine First Division challengers. For me, watching the Bury goals on telly offered two moments of clattering realisation – the quality of Darren Bazeley’s goal, sure, but also the sheer big-kid-in-the-playground power of Allan Smart’s strike. Goddamn, this side has the potential to be as celebrated as any of its GT-assembled predecessors. http://watford.fcdb.info?s=35515&id=4326 Share this: Share on X (Opens in new window) X Share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook
24th October 1998- New Division One, Watford 2 Port Vale 2 Leave a Reply BSAD report: The debutant’s two goals will grab the headlines, and rightly so. But, in truth, he had a curious match. Ironically, his strength also proved to be his weakness. Like Nick Wright, he appears to have a knack of appearing in the penalty area unnoticed at the right moment, something that will certainly guarantee him goals. Unlike Wright, he also appears to be well versed in the art of finishing such opportunities. The problem, therefore, was not in his performance but in his position – as a right winger, he wasn’t available enough in our approach play. That was frustrating, particularly when his moments on the ball were artful and aggressive. Our attacks leaned heavily to the left as a consequence. http://watford.fcdb.info?s=33679&id=4324 Share this: Share on X (Opens in new window) X Share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook
10th October 1998- New Division One, Watford 1 Birmingham City 1 Leave a Reply BSAD report: Strange times in Hertfordshire. The local paper blares bizarre headlines concerning mutilated sheep carcasses from satanic rituals on Chipperfield Common. The scoreboard at Vicarage Road proudly displays advertising for “Dianetics” by L. Ron Hubbard. The programme promises that future pre-match entertainment will include exploding water buffalo. Only one of the above is a lie. http://watford.fcdb.info?s=30881&id=4321 Share this: Share on X (Opens in new window) X Share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook
29th September 1998- New Division One, Watford 1 Sheffield United 1 Leave a Reply http://watford.fcdb.info?id=4319 BSAD report: This time last year, we were also drawing 1-1. At home to York City. So, no reason for frowning faces, no reason to dwell for too long on why Sheffield United didn’t become our seventh victims of the season. What we’ve achieved so far isn’t going to be undone by one hideous miss and two dropped points. Share this: Share on X (Opens in new window) X Share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook
26th September 1998- New Division One, Watford 1 Ipswich Town 0 Leave a Reply On this occasion, facing arguably the most potent forward line in the division, we stared defeat full in the face. Then we kicked it right in the nuts. In other words, we absolutely refused to surrender the points, despite several spells when an Ipswich goal seemed completely inevitable. To quote a cliché, you make your own luck. http://watford.fcdb.info?id=4318 Share this: Share on X (Opens in new window) X Share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook
19th September 1998- New Division One, Swindon Town 1 Watford 4 Leave a Reply Wins like Saturday’s should be enjoyed for what they are, not what they might lead to. That the three points takes us up to fifth place really doesn’t matter to me; that they were gained by having so much hilarious, brilliant fun means everything. This was an absolute blast.
