BSAD imageBSAD reports: It had to be Selhurst. Of all the places, it had to be Selhurst. Scene of so many humiliations, disappointments, and dreary fizzles over so many years. The place where Curcic and his ludicrous goatee cheated us out of a deserved win. Where Glenn Roeder’s tenure came to such a decisive end. Where our short trip to the Premiership found its nadir, hammered by a team that was eventually relegated with us. Where Wayne Brown once had a shot that not only went out for a throw, but a throw level with where he’d struck the ball.

I haven’t slept for a week. The ambivalent feelings that I’ve had all season about the prospect of Premiership football next year have disappeared and been replaced by an overwhelming desire to see this wonderful group of lads playing ‘where they should be’.

31st December 2005- Championship, Watford 1 Crystal Palace 2

Andy Johnson’s penalty made it three straight wins for Palace and closed the gap on their play-off rivals.

He’s right about one thing, is our Adrian. That penalty was a joke. The kind of thing that leaves a bitter, sour after-taste, that lingers after the result has stopped hurting. A very Crystal Palace way to lose a game. God forbid that we ever become like that, just means to an end.

17th January 2004- New Division One, Watford 1 Crystal Palace 5

The Hornets were looking for some cheer following their FA Cup exit at the hands of Chelsea in midweek but Palace were in no mood to oblige.

Where to start, really. This was an absolute horror, make no mistake. The repercussions could be catastrophic. That there are positives to be drawn from the performance, that we have played worse, significantly worse, this season perhaps makes it all the more horrific.

As I put it to my dad on the way back from the ground: a team of Keith Dublins could not have done any worse.

Guardian report:Routledge, booked in the second minute for a foul, was dismissed by the referee Andy Hall for a second yellow, which meant red – pretty much the colour of Trevor Francis’s face as the Palace manager tried to convey his frustration.

BSAD report:the sheer energy of it all was thrilling, and the honesty and commitment was more than welcome.

9th March 2002- New Division One, Crystal Palace 0 Watford 2

Transfer-listed duo Allan Nielsen and Marcus Gayle made Gianluca Vialli think again when they both scored in Watford’s win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

In first-half injury-time Allan Nielsen converted Stephen Glass’s centre, then two minutes after the interval Marcus Gayle beat Matt Clarke to another Glass cross.

At its start, a rather feeble turn-out of Watford fans – in either this season’s away performances or our recent record at Selhurst Bloody Park, it’d be hard to find a logical reason to swap nineteen quid for a seat in the Arthur Wait Stand – was taunted and ridiculed by the ever-charming locals. “Why don’t you all sit together?” they queried, looking at expanses of empty seats and occasional clumps of people. By the end, the same chants were being cheekily returned to the rapidly emptying home stands.

Pre-match, looking at the programme, my ‘escort’ was his usual optimistic self. “We haven’t beaten this lot since 93”. “All the more reason to be here than, in case we witness this rare event”. Looking around the fleapit that is Selhurst, that is the only reason.
