WFC.Net Jon Mark’s Goal Commentary: 1  2

BBC: An extraordinary goal by Wesley Hoedt clinched victory for Watford at Hull.

Sky: The Hornets captain nicked possession off Liam Delap just inside Hull’s half before executing a perfect lob over Ryan Allsop after 74 minutes.

Watford Observer: RECAP: Hull City 1 Watford 2

Hoedt’s wonder goal and Hamer’s penalty save set up great away win

Fran’s Watford Blog: Hamer had a brilliant game.  The penalty save is what will be remembered, but Philogene had created several other decent chances for the home side, so Ben was called on to make some tricky saves and rose to the challenge on each occasion.  So much so that he now has a song.  The others all played their parts, but Hoedt’s wonder goal will live long in the memory.  He had a great game in defence but usually when he shapes to shoot, I wince.  I will not do that again.  The team spirit appears strong, and I love the little dance that Andrews and Koné have done together at the end of the last two games.

22nd April 2023- Championship, Hull City 1 Watford 0

Attendance: 20,666

BBC Sport: Ozan Tufan’s penalty ensured Hull ended Watford’s Championship play-off hopes. The Hornets are winless in eight on the road and, having sat third on 20 January, slipped into the bottom half three points ahead of the Tigers.

Sky Sports: Wilder can have no complaints as Watford lacked passion and energy, most notably in the first half, and rarely threatened Hull goalkeeper Karl Darlow.

Fran’s Watford Blog: It had been another terrible game.  Hull were abysmal, they had two shots on goal all afternoon and the only one on target was the penalty.  But they still beat us.  Darlow did have to make a couple of saves, but I never felt that we would get anything out of the game.

11th December 2022- Championship, Watford 0 Hull City 0

I’ve not checked the stats, but I’m pretty sure this is the first competitive game we’ve been involved in where three substitutes who came on were themselves substituted during the game.

Attendance: 18,846

BBC Sport: Watford and Hull City played out a dour goalless draw, as the home side missed the chance to move up to third in the Championship.

Sky Sports: Attempts on goal were sporadic, with Hull’s Jacob Greaves sending a header from a corner well wide and Christian Kabasele sliding in to block Tyler Smith’s shot from the right of the Watford box.

BHappy: The first half is utterly joyless.  It’s insanely cold for one thing…  I think I remember being colder for that 2-1 defeat to Manchester United when Troy scored at both ends but this is still ridiculous, particularly since I am now versus then seven years closer to having to recognise that I’m approaching middle age, and have dressed accordingly.   The atmosphere is non-existent, and nobody in the stadium objects… there’s a tacit recognition of the circumstances.  The home ends are painfully sparse until kick-off, when all those sensibly huddling in the concourses for the illusion of warmth scuttle out into the stands.  The game starts and briefly there’s the relief of stuff getting back into the groove… I’ve not half missed it because, you know.  It almost doesn’t matter what happens, it’s just football.

Fran’s Watford Blog:  After the long break, it was a disappointment that the Hornets didn’t make a better showing against a poor Hull side, who seemed to be playing for a goalless draw from kick-off.  The second half was an improvement on the first, but that isn’t saying much.  João Pedro and Asprilla both had decent chances that were well dealt with by Ingram in the Hull goal and Manaj really should have hit the target with his late chance.  It was very worrying to see Choudhury having to go off with an injury, further restricting the Hornets’ midfield options, although the return of Dele-Bashiru was very welcome.

RATINGS: Deeney and co struggle in Hull defeat

BBC Sport Ten-man Hull City claimed a gutsy victory against Watford to ensure they remain outside the relegation zone and in control of their Premier League destiny.

sky Goals from Lazar Markovic and Sam Clucas further boosted Hull’s Premier League survival hopes in a superb 2-0 win over a flat Watford side at the KCOM on Saturday.

guardian When Oumar Niasse was controversially sent off with well over an hour remaining, Marco Silva’s impeccable home record seemed in severe jeopardy.  By way of exacerbating the woes of the Hull manager Robert Madley’s debatable interpretation of Niasse’s challenge on M’Baye Niang looked the sort of decision on which relegations can hinge and tens of millions of pounds be forfeited.

Independent Lazar Markovic and Sam Clucas struck second-half goals as 10-man Hull kept their Premier League survival hopes alive with a gutsy 2-0 home win against Watford.

BHappy image Ten days ago we went on a road trip.  Only 100 miles or so, so not a vast distance, but the drive from Addis Ababa to Ziway is not to be undertaken lightly.

FranI had a very cultural week all in all, with plays by Tom Stoppard, Tennessee Williams and Shakespeare followed by a cracking evening spent with the Saw Doctors.  I just had to hope that my visit to the city of culture finished the week in style.

report: I resent the loss of midweek games, the loss of that looking forward to a week of work being interrupted by this nugget of excitement (or Rotherham at home, whatever) simply to accommodate Manchester United (for example) losing to some Danish team in a bloated competition that will give them plenty of second chances anyway.

A very poor Hull City visited Vicarage Road and gave Jon, Jason and Mike plenty to talk about. That and a certain forged letter make it another one of those fun weeks to be a Watford fan. COME ON YOU ORNS!

report:There is always something special about the sense of anticipation in a pre-match crowd.  Also, as it was Watford playing Hull, there was neither a ticket tout nor a half-and-half scarf anywhere to be seen.

8th December 2012- Championship, Watford 1 Hull City 2

BBC SportHull won at Watford for a third straight away victory that moves them up to fourth in the Championship.

BHappy imageIf we’re being as demanding of ourselves as we ought to be, then we should conclude that we were sloppy and complacent for much of the game against Barnsley…and that we got away with it because our opponents weren’t good enough to take advantage. None of that here: Hull set themselves out to stick a spanner into every single one of our stock passing moves, while remaining patient and watchful and quietly potent when possession came their way. They were far too much for us, and that made for a fascinating tussle between what we are and what we might yet be, a revealing insight into how close we are to being the finished article.
