6th April 2015- Championship, Watford 2 Middlesbrough 0 Leave a Reply http://watford.fcdb.info?id=5163 Troy Deeney became the first Watford player to score 20 goals in three successive seasons as Middlesbrough lost their place at the Championship summit. Middlesbrough moved back to the top of the table with a 1-0 win over Wigan on Friday, but they were knocked off the summit within three days by Watford, who moved into pole position themselves before being usurped by Bournemouth and Norwich later on Easter Monday. Watford actually grew stronger as the game went on, and could have won by a wider margin than two. Even more encouraging was the way they defended the threat of Patrick Bamford, one of the Championship’s in-form strikers, who barely got a sight of goal. With his stilted English delivered in unwavering monotone, Slavisa Jokanovic – Watford’s fourth manager of the season – seems an unlikely inspiration but in these most pressured circumstances his side produced probably their most convincing display of the season. Aitor Karanka was later to join the ranks of managers complaining about our strike threat as if it’s some kind of unfair advantage, like a twelfth player or a bribed referee. 15th February 2014- Championship, Watford 1 Middlesbrough 0 http://watford.fcdb.info/index.php?page=matches WFC.Net goal commentary: 1 BBC: Watford made it 10 points from 12 after beating Middlesbrough in a game in which both sides finished with 10 men. BHappy: The penalty and the two red cards took place within the first twelve minutes of the half.  They left whopping great craters all over whatever gameplans had been in place, and if we’d looked anything but impressive before going ahead what followed was an absolute masterclass in navigating the revised landscape. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/26094279 Share this: Share on X (Opens in new window) X Share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook
6th October 2012- Championship, Watford 1 Middlesbrough 2 Leave a Reply Scott McDonald scored a late winner for Middlesbrough as they beat 10-man Watford at Vicarage Road. The home side took the lead when an Andre Bikey error led to Matej Vydra’s shot being parried and Troy Deeney pounced to score from close range. It’s fair to say that a quarter of an hour or so in few will have been anticipating this kind of scoreline. We were aided in no small part by the very early opening, resultant from a weak backpass from the Centre Back Formerly Known as Bikey… Vydra latched onto it, Steele blocked his shot but the ball broke for Troy Deeney to loft the ball into an empty net. http://watford.fcdb.info?id=5027 Share this: Share on X (Opens in new window) X Share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook
28th April 2012- Championship, Watford 2 Middlesbrough 1 Leave a Reply Final programme notes from Sean Dyche and Laurence Bassini http://watford.fcdb.info?id=5015 Middlesbrough missed out on the play-offs with a defeat at Watford. The visitors needed a win and Cardiff, to lose in order to sneak into the top six. As you always do on the final day, you look around the pitch for signs of what next season might bring, for the points that need addressing, for the players who need tying down lest they fly away. One last look before a summer of idle discussion and speculation…and we’ll mostly leave all of that for the footie-less weeks.
