1st January 2002- New Division One, Watford 1 Millwall 4 Leave a Reply http://watford.fcdb.info?id=4484 Gianluca Vialli’s men were torn apart as Millwall claimed all three points in clinical fashion. Watford hit the post through Tommy Smith after 23 minutes but otherwise were rarely a threat until Heidar Helguson scored a consolation nine minutes from time. BBC-SPORT-_-ENGLISH-DIVISION-1-_-Watford-1-4-MillwallDownload Gianluca Vialli said in his match programme notes that he didn’t want “to take stock” until the end of the season. However, only 45 minutes into Watford’s first 2002 commitment the Vicarage Road fans were voicing their concern. One of these teams is indeed well-equipped for a Division One charge (if not, you feel, for Premiership survival). The other has its head in the clouds. One was hungry, sharp, well-organised, strongly bonded…and, crucially, aware of its limitations and prepared to work hard to overcome them. Not so very different from the Watford side that passed swiftly through the First Division under Graham Taylor, in fact. The other was lazy, sloppy, weak, fragmented, and entirely deserving of a stuffing. https://www.soccerbase.com/matches/results.sd?date=2002-01-01 Share this: Share on X (Opens in new window) X Share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook

We won some – the Watford mailing list team achieving a mighty 2-1 victory at Spurs on Saturday morning. And we lost some – the other Watford team blowing a chance to open up a really serious gap at the top of Division Two. http://watford.fcdb.info?s=32177&id=4267 Share this: Share on X (Opens in new window) X Share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook

You ought to have guessed by now that this is not one of those matches. Share this: Share on X (Opens in new window) X Share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook
2nd December 1995- New Division One, Millwall 1 Watford 2 Former Watford commercial manager Mike Sullivan is now working for Millwall (see page 12) and a message from Elton on page 26. http://watford.fcdb.info/index.php?page=matches Sunday Mirror, 3 Dec 1995 Sunday Telegraph, 3 Dec 1995 At last we get to see a genuine centre forward in a yellow shirt. It might only be Paul Wilkinson, older and wiser but still always offside, and there’s a temptation to feel disappointed about that, but he played a role in this victory, both as a target man and a decoy for the brilliant Phillips. In truth, it’s just a wonderful relief to know that there will be someone hanging around the six-yard box when we go forward. As long as it doesn’t exclude other possible signings, I’d happily see Wilko return to the Vic on a permanent basis. It took him less than a minute to get caught offside and have a go at the linesman – welcome back, mate! https://www.soccerbase.com/matches/results.sd?date=1995-12-02 https://www.soccerbase.com/matches/results.sd?date=1995-12-02 Share this: Share on X (Opens in new window) X Share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook
