‘We have a way of being able to find a win here at home’

Let’s just enjoy that feeling of winning when we probably shouldn’t have

Fran’s Watford Blog: After the superb showing on Friday, this performance was rather disappointing, but the three points were very welcome. The visitors had dominated the first half, but the Hornets were much better in the second with the defence restricting the chances for the visitors. Sadly, the forward play was lacking. Louza was named Man of the Match by the sponsors, but Bachmann deservedly won out in the fan vote. He had an excellent game, pulling off some crucial saves. Having been impressed by the football played by the Hornets on Friday, I thought that there were too many loose and misplaced passes in this game. But a win always sends the crowd home happy and we can just hope for a better performance for the visit of QPR on Saturday.

Game played behind closed doors

Watford Observer: Head coach Slaven Bilic took the chance to take a look at Jeremy Ngakia on the right side of defence for the first time, while midfielder Tom Dele-Bashiru also started – though it must be said the line-up was almost totally changed during the interval.

BBC: Struggling Doncaster kept their second clean sheet of the season to earn a point against Watford.

BHappy: Bottom line, it’s an away point.  An away point against a limited, disjointed if unpredictable Doncaster side, but a point more than we’d accumulated from our previous four away trips.  In an open first half we fashioned plenty of chances;  Iwelumo put through to shank a shot into the stand, Kightly taking advantage of his marker backing off in the box to fire narrowly wide, Mariappa and Sordell both forcing a save from Ikeme with a sharp turn and shot, Yeates given space on the edge of the area to chest down and volley over a crowded penalty box to force another decent stop.  So… more than a little frustrating that for the fourth time in five away trips we failed to find the net.

BSAD: A reasonable number of Hornets have made the trip up, although some have had longer journeys than others; local boy Clarke Carlisle, missing due to suspension, is in the stand as is Richard Lee who joins in most of the chants like a good’un (even the Aidy Boothroyd ones).
