BSAD image Real life is something to stumble haphazardly through, the bits of my brain that are supposed to be occupying themselves with useful stuff daydreaming of Wem-ber-lee instead. Real life is Saturday and Saturday is a daze, having queued in Occupation Road for tickets to the away leg from half past ten on Friday night and got no nearer to sleep than ten minutes with my eyes closed. Real life is what awaits in the summer, which might start as soon as Thursday (and that’s a frightening thought). Real life is not Watford, so it’s nothing that I’d be interested in.

Independent WEMBLEY IS beckoning Watford – but Graham Taylor is refusing to look. The Watford manager was reluctant to acknowledge yesterday that victory in the first leg of the First Division play-off semi-final had improved his team’s chances of reaching the twin towers for the first time since the 1984 FA Cup final.

BSAD: Christ, this was an absolutely magnificent away victory, one of the truly great Watford performances of recent years. They took the intensity and aggression from the last twenty minutes of the Tranmere game as a starting point. Then they added discipline, intelligence, astonishingly astute tactics, finishing, bravery, patience, unbroken concentration, resolute confidence, ambition. After weeks of suffering from a chronic inferiority complex, we finally proved ourselves wrong.

BSAD imageBSAD report: Strange times in Hertfordshire. The local paper blares bizarre headlines concerning mutilated sheep carcasses from satanic rituals on Chipperfield Common. The scoreboard at Vicarage Road proudly displays advertising for “Dianetics” by L. Ron Hubbard. The programme promises that future pre-match entertainment will include exploding water buffalo. Only one of the above is a lie.

BSAD: Our first visit to St Andrews since That Furlong Incident brings a couple of surprises – the fact that Birmingham now offer the opportunity to sponsor Karren Brady’s briefcase (you WHAT?!?) and that the ground has been half-transformed into a Premiership quality all-seater. I say “half-transformed” because one side and one end have been rebuilt, the rest is as archaic as ever.

BSAD imageBSAD report: The pattern of recent Watford performances has been somewhat mediocre – I’ve struggled on occasions to pick out a star player from those in yellow shirts. Not so with this game. Although certain individuals (hi Gary!) were way below par, others – namely Miller, Foster, Millen and Moralee – were absolutely outstanding and earnt a point we arguably didn’t deserve.
