14th January 2004- FA Cup Third Round Replay, Chelsea 4 Watford 0 Leave a Reply Chelsea brushed aside Watford to book a fourth round tie with Scarborough. The Watford manager Ray Lewington wished Scarborough good luck in a tone of comic pity, yet his own side took credit for the vim shown despite the unavailability of their injured forward Heidar Helguson. The Icelander was rumbustious in the 2-2 draw at Vicarage Road that had slotted into a sequence of troubled games for Chelsea. This should be no surprise. After all, it’s what everyone expected to happen, what was tacitly being written into the history books before the game kicked off. The surprise was the draw in the first game, a game we might even have won… and the enormity of that achievement was only underlined by the degree to which we were ultimately outclassed in this replay. https://www.soccerbase.com/matches/results.sd?date=2004-01-14 Share this: Share on X (Opens in new window) X Share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook
14th January 1998- FA Cup Third Round Replay, Sheffield Wednesday 0 Watford 0 (After Extra Time, Sheffield Wednesday won 5-3 on penalties) Daily Mirror, 15 Jan 1998 Daily Telegraph, 15 Jan 1998 BSAD report: Was it worth it? Oh, yeah. Di Canio’s sending off, one of the most senseless and utterly dick-witted acts I’ve seen a footballer commit, was a comedy moment of epic proportions and well worth the journey. That we failed to overcome our recent failings to win the tie seems to matter a little less than it might’ve when we have that memory to take away from Hillsborough. Arsenal won 4-3 on penalties Share this: Share on X (Opens in new window) X Share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook
