15th October 2005- Championship, Watford 1 Leicester City 2 Leave a Reply Leicester claimed their first away victory of the season at Watford. Don’t let me paint this as a crisis. It isn’t, and it doesn’t need to be. But it shouldn’t be taken lightly either, just because the start to the campaign was so exuberant and so refreshing. For the second time, we dropped points at home in a tight game, leaving a striker on the bench with a substitution to spare. http://watford.fcdb.info?s=31800&id=4677 Share this: Share on X (Opens in new window) X Share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook
15th March 2005- Championship, Watford 2 Leicester City 2 Leave a Reply Jay De Merit had put Watford ahead, heading home a free-kick, before Danny Webber scored a penalty after Nikos Dabizas fouled Heidar Helguson. Ray Lewington shuffled his depleted deck of cards, still missing its ace of spades as far as the current situation goes in Sean Dyche, and also without the suspended Bryjar Gunnarsson, and came up with a 4-4-2 formation with four changes in personnel from the QPR game. Jack Smith came in for the hapless Jermaine Darlington. Lloyd Doyley returned to the fray, along with Danny Webber and Neal Ardley and we settled down to see what Watford were made of. You have Gary “too good to be substituted” Lineker, for instance, who used our Premier League season to make his point. Yes, Gary, we’ve got the idea.  Share this: Share on X (Opens in new window) X Share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook
28th December 2002- New Division One, Watford 1 Leicester City 2 Leave a Reply http://watford.fcdb.info?id=4532 Watford, under pressure to keep in contact with the top six, threw everything at a wall of blue shirts, with Andy Impey particularly to the fore in key situations. Watford-1-2-Leicester-City-_-Football-_-The-GuardianDownload The frustration here was that after a distinctly tentative opening ten minutes in which we might’ve shot ourselves in the foot before Leicester had the chance to do the job themselves, we turned to face our opponents and return their sneers and snarls with interest. We didn’t lose the battle, we just lost the game…and, perhaps, the result reflected the league positions fairly accurately in that respect. Somehow, Leicester have a ruthless, guiltless edge that we lack. Somehow, I’m not sure that I regret that at all. https://www.soccerbase.com/matches/results.sd?date=2002-12-28 https://www.11v11.com/league-tables/league-division-1/28-december-2002/ Share this: Share on X (Opens in new window) X Share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook
10th August 2002-New Division One, Leicester City 2 Watford 0 Leave a Reply This was the first competitive game played at Leicester’s new Walkers Stadium (now known as the King Power Stadium). Brian Deane grabbed two goals as Leicester got off to a winning start at the Walkers Stadium against Watford. A 31,000 crowd raised the roof of the Foxes’ new home as last season’s Premiership basement club put their relegation woes behind them with a solid display BBC-SPORT-_-Football-_-Eng-Div-1-_-Leicester-2-0-WatfordDownload Ah, the rituals of opening day; second-gearing on the motorway alongside caravans and cars with scarves hanging out of the windows, hope springing anew in every step of every fan wending their way to every ground. Neither ITV Digital nor a daily diet of summer scare stories can take that away. The contrast with last season is striking, already. Whatever else went wrong yesterday, we were far more comfortable with the high tempo set by Leicester, and far less afraid of being seen to sweat and toil. We pressed hard, retrieving possession more quickly than before and occasionally forcing errors from a slightly sloppy Foxes defence. Notably, and despite a great deal of complaint about the lack of aerial threat from a lightweight attack, an eager midfield pounced on rebounds and clearances rather than allowing them to escape, thus enabling us to press forward without always retaining possession particularly well. It didn’t amount to much, perhaps. That doesn’t mean that it can’t amount to much, however. All the Horns fans, some three thousand of them in a crowd of over 31,000 (ground capacity I’m told is 32,500) were in the north-east corner of the ground, with vociferous Leicester fans on either side – and Leicester fans occupied the areas behind both goals. Horns fans, not noted for their ability to make noise since our days in the Premiership, certainly out-sang our opponents until the goals arrived, but it’s hard creating an atmosphere from one corner of a stadium. http://watford.fcdb.info?id=4506 28th December 2002- New Division One, Watford 1 Leicester City 2 https://www.soccerbase.com/matches/results.sd?date=2002-08-10 https://www.soccerbase.com/matches/results.sd?date=2002-08-11 https://www.11v11.com/league-tables/league-division-1/11-august-2002/ Share this: Share on X (Opens in new window) X Share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook
12th February 2000- Premier League, Watford 1 Leicester City 1 Leave a Reply In an open, entertaining match Watford’s Allan Smart could have had a hat-trick in the space of four frantic first-half minutes – but each time he shot just too high or straight to Leicester goalkeeper Tim Flowers. This was not a classic, just a well-matched contest with plenty of incident. A healthy serving of good, wholesome footie. And we didn’t lose either.
