BBC: Mileta Rajovic scored a 92nd-minute equaliser for Watford as they fought back to seal a Championship draw against managerless Millwall.

Sky: The burly Danish forward nodded in an Imran Louza cross to cancel out a late Wes Harding header and keep both sides entrenched in mid-table.

Frustration as Hornets salvage point with late equaliser

BHappy: On the hour, the now customary triple sub (and as an aside, I still fancy that the disciplined rotating of legs in the midfield in particular has contributed to, touching wood, a very favourable injury record this season). On came Rajović, Louza and Martins… and almost immediately we lost our footing. Millwall, perhaps, contributed to this… taking advantage of a third of our outfield players having been swapped to up their own energy and force us backwards with their own best spell as our new guys got up to speed with a game that had been verging on volatile from the start.

Fran’s Watford Blog: It was another improved performance. The tedium of a few weeks ago has been replaced by a team with much more attacking intent, although some of the defensive frailties remain. The run of unbeaten games may only have stretched to three before Saturday, but it has brought with it an increasing confidence that manifests itself in more attacking play. The return of Sema has certainly added something as he is never afraid to try to beat a player and he makes things happen. I was also pleased that Asprilla put in a good showing after starting, proving that he isn’t just an impact sub. The triple substitution was maybe not Ismaël’s best decision as the three who were replaced had all been playing well. But it was inattentiveness at set pieces which let us down again.

BBC Sport: Andreas Voglsammer scored his first goal in English football to set Millwall on the road to a vital victory over Watford in their fight for a Championship play-off place.

Sky Sports: The home side were reduced to 10 men in the 38th minute when Hassane Kamara was sent off but they were comprehensively outplayed on their own turf.

BHappy: The first half was a one-sided farce. Daniel Bachmann, for all that he almost gave an opening goal away with a sloppy clearance before redeeming himself by throwing himself across goal to block Bradshaw’s resultant shot, kept us in the game with a number of brave stops, none better than a reaction save to deny Voglsammer after yet another Cooper knock-down. By that stage however we were already a goal down after a rare Cathcart error contributed to Bradshaw setting up Voglsammer to stroke past Bachmann. “That had been coming”, said everyone in the stadium.

Fran’s Watford Blog: There was then a long break in play after João Pedro was fouled by Saville and seemed to slip as he went down. After treatment on the field, he limped off the pitch and was sat on the sideline while his ankle was strapped up. In the meantime, the Hornets won a corner, the delivery from Sema was met by Ngakia whose header was straight at Long in the Millwall goal. While João Pedro was being treated, Asprilla had stripped and was ready to come on, but the Brazilian returned to the field even though he was limping heavily. It didn’t look like there was any chance that he could run it off, so it was no surprise when he went down again. He was clearly distraught as he left the pitch to be replaced by Asprilla. Losing our best player was pretty upsetting, but Christmas was properly ruined soon after when Kamara chased a ball in the Millwall box and collided with the goalkeeper. An altercation with McNamara followed, Kamara lashed out and the referee showed a straight red. It was an utterly stupid thing to do and there was no sympathetic applause as he left the pitch, instead he received a smattering of boos.

BBC Sport: Tom Bradshaw’s first-half hat-trick helped Millwall inflict a third defeat on Watford in their past four games under Slaven Bilic.

Sky Sports: It took just eight minutes for Bradshaw to open his account for the evening, as he latched onto a long goal-kick that was not dealt with by centre-back Mattie Pollock on his first Championship start for the visitors, before deftly lofting the ball over Daniel Bachmann.

BHappy: We start OK. Yes, really. Bright, positive. Briefly we wonder whether, having once again demonstrated our ability to beat teams that give us space to play we’ll finally overcome a more obstructive opponent. Ho hum.

Fran’s Watford Blog: What a disappointment this was after the excellent showing on Saturday. I can only describe this performance as a shameful shambles. Before the game we had discussed the Blackpool game and the fact that we had performed well in the first hour before our collapse. It certainly hadn’t been the abject display that we had seen at West Brom. This performance was certainly more in that vein but with added soft goals and no wonder strike for us. There were some bright spots in the second half, Kalu and Joao Pedro at least looked to be putting some effort in, but overall it was awful and the Hornets never looked like getting back in the game.

24th April 2021- Championship, Watford 1 Millwall 0

The game where we clinched promotion back to the Premier League after just one season away.

BBC Sport: Ismaila Sarr’s composed 11th-minute penalty, after the Senegal winger was brought down in the box by Billy Mitchell, proved enough for the Hornets.

Sky Sports: Brentford’s win at Bournemouth earlier in the day meant that only three points would be good enough for Xisco Munoz’s Hornets to be promoted alongside Norwich, who came down with them last season.

BHappy: I sink into the sofa, close my eyes for a moment, smile…and wonder what to do. On the pitch, there are hugs, grins, a few tears being wiped away. A party getting started. In the stands, there are empty seats. At home, there’s dinner to be cooked, washing up to be done, life to get on with. It’s an odd way to end an odd season, and it feels as if the meaning of it all will filter through over time, a slow dawning.

From the Rookery End: You may have heard; the ‘Orns are going up! After Watford secured promotion with a hard-earned win against Millwall, Jon, Jason and Mike took a deep breath and try to do a monumental achievement justice.

BBC Sport: Watford climbed into the Championship automatic promotion places despite being held to a goalless stalemate by draw specialists Millwall at The Den.

Sky Sports: The Hornets were looking to make it four straight wins after a great run of form under new boss Xisco Munoz but met a resolute Lions side who dug their heels in for their first point at home since late December.

BHappy: In every respect Millwall are as advertised. Solid, hard-working but limited going forward, relying on the mobility of Wallace to win enough set pieces to give them a puncher’s chance from set pieces. Tough, too, and none the less so for the recruitment of Maikal Kieftenbeld from Birmingham who, four months into our return to the second tier is already indisputably in the guileless clogger box. He’s in the book in under half an hour, the first of six yellows in the game and is the target of more than one revenge hack in the second half, a second half which also sees Troy hurl Hutchinson to the floor after more unpunished grappling at a set piece. Our indiscipline is occasionally understandable, but we’re racking up yellow cards.
