21st October 2000- New Division One, Nottingham Forest 0 Watford 2 http://watford.fcdb.info/index.php?page=matches BBC Sport: A first-half Micah Hyde brace was enough to give Watford a valuable away win at Nottingham Forest which puts them within two points of leaders Fulham. Sunday Telegraph, 22 Oct 2000 Guardian, 23 Oct 2000 Daily Telegraph, 23 Oct 2000 BSAD: Perhaps as close as a Watford side has ever got to the “total football” ideal. Two fine goals from a midfielder, wide players switching flanks at will and frequently coming back to help out in defence, full backs hurtling into the penalty area to get onto the end of flowing attacking moves, central defenders striding over the halfway line. Had we tried to play like this a few years ago, we would’ve seen the kind of chaos that would ensue if everyone ignored the highway code at a busy roundabout…but now it makes sense, it works so well, and there’s great joy in the knowledge that we can still improve. https://www.soccerbase.com/matches/results.sd?date=2000-10-21 https://www.11v11.com/league-tables/league-division-1/21-october-2000/ Share this: Share on X (Opens in new window) X Share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook
21st October 1997- New Division Two, Watford 2 Fulham 0 Leave a Reply BSAD report:And so Mohammed Al Fayed’s weary band of third-rate commentators comes to town. It’s not too difficult to understand the Fulham fans’ anger at recent events – if seeing Mickey Adams booted out wasn’t bad enough, finding that he’s been replaced by Ray Flamin’ Wilkins must feel like a severe boot in the privates. For the rest of the footballing world, however, the prospect of having to spend slightly less time in the company of Kevin Flippin’ Keegan’s shrill, earnest enthusiasm (once, just once, I’d love to hear him describe a player as ‘crap’) and Wilkins’ dreary witticisms is something of an early Christmas present. One can only hope that there’s a job for Mark Bloody Lawrenson too… Daily Telegraph, 22 Oct 1997 Independent, 22 Oct 1997 http://watford.fcdb.info?s=32572&id=4268 Share this: Share on X (Opens in new window) X Share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook
