9th August 2005- Championship, Plymouth Argyle 3 Watford 3

BBC Sport Watford came back from two goals down earn a draw at Plymouth. Micky Evans had put Plymouth ahead when he nodded in an Akos Buzsaky cross before Tony Capaldi squeezed in a left-footed shot. Marlon King’s 18-yard drive pulled one back for Watford only for Paul Wotton to match his strike and restore Plymouth’s two-goal lead. But Ashley Young emerged as Watford’s hero when he curled in a free-kick and slotted in a shot to level.

BSADThere are small but significant changes to the line-up as compared to last weekend. James Chambers makes a return to the starting line-up in place of Jordan Stewart, who drops to the bench. Briefly I’m reminded of Betty’s bullish aside at the Fans’ Forum regarding his recruitment of two left-footed left-backs, but only briefly. And Gavin Mahon makes a most welcome return, if only to the bench in place of Toumani Diagouraga. Still no sign of Devaney, Griffiths or Junior, the latter absence in particular presumably of concern to the lad sitting three rows in front of us with the Brazilian’s name already emblazened across his shoulders. No Sietes either, although this doesn’t deter a boisterous bunch up the back from devoting a fair part of their repartee of new songs to the absentee Spaniard.

BSAD imageBSAD report: Ninety minutes is a long time, relatively speaking. (Relative to a shorter time, natch.) It’s quite easy to forget sometimes.  I mean, we all know that football matches can drag unspeakably, sloooowwwwiiiiinnnngggg tiiiiiimmmmmmeeeee until it almost seems to stop entirely. Such occasions are usually accompanied by bitter winter cold, a large entry into the “goals against” column, or the words “Carling Cup”. Oh, and at least four minutes of injury time.

It’s only his second home game as manager and Vialli is already having a dig about the size of the crowd.

28th December 1997- New Division Two, Watford 1 Plymouth Argyle 1

To be honest, I could just copy and paste large chunks of my Wycombe report and save myself some work here. The same arguments apply – the lack of patience shown by Watford fans is deeply disturbing. At times it’s as if cheering the team on or encouraging certain players is seen as an implicit endorsement of the poorer aspects of our performance.

BSAD: For some strange reason I have wanted to go to Home Park for many years and last night I finally made it. About ten minutes before kick off a light drizzle started to fall which persisted for the rest of the evening. The atmosphere in the ground seemed subdued until the pre-match minute silence, impeccably observed by all supporters, had taken place.

BSAD imageBSAD report: I’ll give the first words to Kate. “F**king shit”, that’s her match report. I think she’s being a bit generous, to be quite honest. This was not just shit, this was shit with bells and knobs and flashing lights and big red cherries on top.
