BBC Sport: Watford and Southampton served up an uninspiring draw as they both remain without a league win after three games of the top-flight season. Hornets midfielder Etienne Capoue had the best chance of the game only to head over from two yards.

Sky Sports: Hornets boss Quique Sanchez Flores resisted the temptation to hand debuts to new signings Miguel Britos, Giedrius Arlauskis and Nathan Ake, although the first two were on the bench.

Fran’s Watford Blog: The positive outcome of the day was that Watford remained unbeaten and stood 11th in the table. The negative was that, despite the efforts, there hadn’t been a single shot on target. The combination of Deeney and Ighalo hasn’t worked in the last two games, so it is very likely that Flores will make a change for the City game. The final word must go to Diamanti whose second half performance I thoroughly enjoyed. His whipped crosses really deserved a final touch. We can only hope that will come to pass in coming weeks.

25th February 2012- Championship, Watford 0 Southampton 3

Rickie Lambert scored a hat-trick to send Southampton back to the top of the Championship table with a comfortable victory at Watford.

Today is bloody awful.  The more so for miserable indifference to the sense of anticipation that the arrivals of Kuszczak and Trotta, two big fillips for areas of the team that neeeded fillips.  Yes, OK, we may have been dicked by Crystal-effing-Palace last week but we’re at home, and new striker and new goalkeeper, and it’s all going to be fine.

Southampton centre-back Jan-Paul Saeijs hit a stunning last-minute equaliser to earn them a point away at Watford.

Having rightly come under considerable fire in his early days, the manager has done a remarkable job of steering the ship away from the rocks since dropping his hardline allegiance to possession football. Bolstered by some extremely timely signings – Mike Williamson and Jack Cork particularly, but Don Cowie too – and aided by a transformation in the likes of Jobi McAnuff and Tamas Priskin, he’s managed to create a perfectly functional, thoroughly mid-table Second Division outfit. And a team that’s suddenly quite easy to like again, that seems comfortable with itself again. As ambition goes, that ain’t Aidy Boothroyd. But it’ll do just fine for now.

18th October 2008- Championship, Southampton 0 Watford 3

Watford goalkeeper Richard Lee saved two penalties to ensure his side were comfortable winners at Southampton. Lee brought down David McGoldrick but made amends by saving the spot-kick and Tamas Priskin compounded the miss by stabbing the opener for Watford. Saints won their second penalty when Adrian Mariappa fouled Ryan Smith but Paul Wotton was also denied by Lee.

Jon Harley put in a deep cross from the left which was met by Mathew Sadler who laid the ball into the path of Priskin and he stabbed the ball home from inside the penalty area.

Form and a glance at the teamsheet suggested that a painfully young Southampton side might cause us a few problems going forward, but a back four with an average age of nineteen was there to be pressured and bullied.
