27th July 2002- Friendly, Yeading 3 Watford 2 Leave a Reply The usual procession of pre-season subs brought the undoubted highlight of the day, as Richard Johnson returned to the fray at last. Looking strong and lean, he had a good twenty-five minutes, culminating in two rasping drives from usual Johnson territory which, had one gone in, would quite frankly have sent our band of fans mental. How we need him to produce the goods when his competitive first team return gets underway. There were also useful run-outs for Vernazza and Glass, while Patterson and Norville showed enough to indicate that we’ll see much more of them as the season goes on. And so, at the end of the game, Yeading were able to celebrate a well-earned win and we were left to ponder some of the things we had seen. Pre-season never has been and never will be a good no barometer of what lies ahead, but I would hope we can raise our game sufficiently when the real action starts, or it’s going to be a tough old season….
