BBC: Doncaster Rovers moved into the top half of the table with a comfortable victory over Watford.

BHappy: It seems somewhat churlish to complain. We knew the limitations that we were operating under this season; Malky Mackay has achieved wondrous things in the circumstances and expectations consequently need to be consciously kept in check. Nonetheless, this was disappointing; a deserved defeat against a tidy enough Donny side, but a Donny side that only ever looked like being put under pressure in the closing minutes.

BBC Sport  Malky Mackay was denied a winning start as Watford boss after Doncaster striker James Hayter cancelled out Danny Graham’s early strike.

sky Watford’s ideas of a dream opener were quickly quashed as they drew 1-1 at home to Doncaster.

TelegraphDoncaster manager Sean O’Driscoll refused to blame the match officials but he believed his side were denied a legitimate goal during their 1-1 draw at Watford.

BHappy imageFizzle. It should, of course, be remembered that there have been less auspicious starts than this to very auspicious seasons; we all crave answers, but these early season games often raise still more questions instead. It was a bit of a non-alcoholic beer of a match: the same fizz as the bottle’s cracked open, but some bite missing from what’s inside.

Hornblogger: The half time entertainment was provided by Mark Falco doing Harry’s 50/50 draw. Maybe he’d not drawn a raffle before but he made the mistake of pulling out three tickets whose numbers ran consecutively. I suppose you’d be pleased if you had those three tickets. I don’t think they’ll be asking him to do it again.

BHappy imageBHappy report:  I want to get my counterbalance out of the way quickly.  First game of a new regime, unreasonable to expect to see the finished article.  Every educated account cites Rodgers as a great coach, but the best coach in the world isn’t going to get it all dancing to his tune in between press conferences in the space of three days…

…but I think we have a right to expect better than that.  After a week in which we’ve pulled in four points and two decent performances from two awkward looking games under Mackay’s caretakership, what’s the sense behind making SEVEN (count them) personnel or positional changes to your starting eleven, only one of which (Ward) enforced?  Having a clear idea of how you want your team to play is one thing.  Turning it all upside down within the space of three days such that the good bits – and there were clearly good bits – of the side inherited were chucked out with the bathwater smacks of blind arrogance.
