4th March 2008- Championship, Watford 1 Norwich City 1

Norwich striker Jamie Cureton came off the bench to score a superb late equaliser away at Watford.

The first twenty minutes was terrific, but we’ve nobody but ourselves to blame if we don’t take advantage of such spells.  It’s no coincidence that we’ve not tonked anyone for a while.

23rd February 2008- Championship, Watford 0 Preston North End 0

Watford lost ground on leaders Stoke after being held by spirited Preston.

On Saturday night, as Watford’s players digested another disappointing home result in a season blighted by them, they were asking themselves one question: chicken or beef?

Some days it just doesn’t bounce for you.  Had Doris scored his early chance, Preston’s impotence in attack suggests we’d have won comfortably – not until the last twenty minutes did a victory seem anything but inevitable.

What a complete turnaround in terms of defensive resilience.  Wolves in the cup was just seventeen days ago…

26th January 2008- FA Cup Fourth Round, Watford 1 Wolverhampton Wanderers 4

After O’Toole’s goal, Jobi McAnuff had a great chance to set up a tense finish as he got on the end of a cross from Watford substitute Tommy Smith, but he put his shot wide.

Another kick up the backside, Aidy?  If our arses are that sore no wonder we’re struggling so badly.

5th January 2008- FA Cup Third Round, Watford 2 Crystal Palace 0

Dan Shittu scored two virtually identical goals as Watford ended Crystal Palace’s 13-game unbeaten run to reach the FA Cup fourth round.

Well that was much better. It’s been a while since we’ve dominated a side at home as we did in the second half.

29th December 2007- Championship, Watford 2 Queens Park Rangers 4

QPR’s remarkable victory leaves Watford without a home win since 20 October.

QPR now sit 19th in the Championship, a long way from Watford who, after a seventh home league game without a win, are on the slide. The manager, Aidy Boothroyd, is trying to quell talk of a crisis but the captain, Jay DeMerit, admits the club’s hopes of going straight back into the Premier League are fragile. “We are a little bit nervous at home – it feels as though there is more pressure,” he said. “A team that is near the top of the table should be winning at home. Our jobs aren’t safe; we have to play well in order to keep them.”

What a jolly splendid sunset over the Rous Stand.
