BBC SportIshmael Miller scored the only goal as Nottingham Forest moved out of the Championship relegation zone with victory at Watford.

TelegraphWatford, who had enjoyed the better of the second half, pressed on undeterred with John Eustace sending a well-struck shot straight into the arms of Lee Camp in the dying minutes of the game.

BHappy imageThe formation appears designed with containment in mind; containment not just of the opposition, but of our own creativity and imagination, as if getting too carried away might prove dangerous, as if risk and chance are things to be eliminated at all costs. Reinforcement of those ideas comes from the bench, with substitutions so numbingly conservative that they’re announced in the small ads of the Daily Mail rather than over the tannoy. The totality is a crumbling communist edifice, built with the thought that attacking is merely defending with the ball.

BBC SportLeeds captain Richard Naylor hit the winner in his 450th career appearance to end Watford’s unbeaten start to the season in a poor game at Vicarage Road.

skyLeeds United made it back-to-back Championship victories as captain Richard Naylor struck to end Watford’s unbeaten start to the season.

BSAD imageThe sort of game, frankly, that I was dreading in the summer. Leeds weren’t particularly better than us – but they were bigger, stronger and, crucially, one goal up for most of the game.

21st August 2010- Championship, Hull City 0 Watford 0

skyHull City failed to bounce back from their drubbing last weekend after they could only manage a 0-0 draw against Watford. The Tigers, who suffered a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Millwall last weekend, were unable to find the net in a forgettable clash at the KC Stadium, while the Hornets maintained their unbeaten start to the season. Hull went close on three occasions thanks to new signing Robert Koren, while goalkeeper Matt Duke managed to keep a clean sheet, denying Danny Graham and Jordon Mutch after half-time.

10th August 2010-League Cup First Round, Aldershot Town 0 Watford 3

Scott Loach warmed the bench two nights running, the first at the Recreation Ground and the second at the more glamorous surroundings of Wembley Stadium.   Rene Gilmartin made his Watford debut for this League Cup game whilst Scott was an unused sub.  The following day Ben Foster withdrew from the England squad to play Hungary and Fabio Capello called Loach up as a late replacement.  He didn’t play as England won 2-1.

Danny Graham bagged another brace as Watford eased into the second round of the Carling Cup with victory over Aldershot. The 24-year-old striker netted twice in Watford’s opening day win at Norwich and repeated the feat against the League Two side, scoring either side of Marvin Sordell’s effort. Manager Malky Mackay made just one change from Friday’s Championship opener. Rene Gilmartin replaced Scott Loach in goal after the 22-year-old received a late call up to Fabio Capello’s England squad for Wednesday’s friendly with Hungary.

23rd October 2009- Championship, Watford 4 Sheffield Wednesday 1

BBC: Watford moved to within three points of the Championship leaders with a superb win over Sheffield Wednesday.

Daily Telegraph, 24 Oct 2009

BHappy: Well I have to confess to not having seen that coming. The continuing absence of H and the Duke still on the bench didn’t particularly lift the spirits on the way into the ground either. It’s never as much fun as when you don’t expect it, is it…?

28th February 2009- Championship, Watford 2 Crystal Palace 0

New Watford signing Don Cowie scored one and set up the other as the Hornets clinched a third successive league win.

Three games now against teams that are “down there”.  Continue this good run and lingering relegation concerns could be behind us in ten days’ time.
