BBC: Watford and West Bromwich Albion shared the points at Vicarage Road as Valerien Ismael’s Hornets were held to a draw by his old club in the Championship.

Sky: Tom Ince gave the hosts a third-minute lead but John Swift and Jed Wallace replied in the next 14 minutes for the Baggies. Matheus Martins responded for the Hornets but neither side was able to find a winner in the Championship fixture.

The conditions led to errors from both sides though, and one from Wesley Hoedt almost resulted in a winner for Brandon Thomas-Asante, but he was denied by an excellent Daniel Bachmann save after he had also kept out a stinging drive from the Albion striker earlier in the second period.

Head coach Valerien Ismael had seen tonight’s movie a few times already this season, and it’s not one he’s enjoyed previously.

It wasn’t just the sublime finish that made Tom Ince’s first goal for Watford a bit special, it was the move that led up to it as well.

Fran’s Watford Blog: In the end, a draw was probably a fair result. All of the goals had been in the first 20 minutes, but both teams had chances to win it in the second half and had their keepers to thank for making terrific saves. The conditions had been horrible, so misplaced passes could be excused, and I was glad that the weather didn’t lead to any catastrophic errors. Watford’s game is still annoyingly error strewn, but the attacking threat continues, and it was a very entertaining game for those that braved the elements.

BBC Sport: Watford saw off a spirited West Bromwich Albion side in an entertaining contest at Vicarage Road to move back into the Championship play-off places.

Sky Sports: There was little sign of the drama to follow when Watford were jeered by their own support barely 10 minutes into a lifeless start at Vicarage Road, between two sides short of form and confidence.

BHappy: Slaven Bilić had intimated that it was time we started scoring a few more goals; this was as true off the pitch as much as on it since an official crowd of 18634 failed to reflect the increasingly sparse home stands (not so the right hand side of the Vic Road End, where Albion have taken every seat). There’s a cumulative effect of, in practice, watching successive relegation seasons and flattering to deceive in this, what should be the one fun season in two.

Fran’s Watford Blog: The Hornets opened the scoring in the 22^nd minute, Gaspar played the ball across to Davis whose shot was blocked, and the ball fell to Sema who turned it in.

BBC: Ismaila Sarr scored a spectacular David Beckham-style chip from his own half but then had a late penalty saved as Watford drew with West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns.

Sky: A moment of inspiration from Sarr illuminated a game that the home side dominated, firing Watford ahead against the run of play, with Daniel Bachmann’s trio of astounding saves immediately upstaged by the brilliance of the game’s opening goal.

The Guardian: Albion manager Steve Bruce admitted he was torn between applauding Sarr’s wonder goal and criticising Button. “Like everybody in the ground, did I want to applaud it or look at my goalkeeper, thinking ‘where are you?!”’ said Bruce. “It’s a wonderful piece of skill by a very good player. I think he looked to see where my goalkeeper was and he [Sarr] executed it.

Fran’s Watford Blog: It had been a dreadful performance from the Hornets. The problems stemmed from the midfield, which was completely overrun. There had been waves and waves of West Brom attacks and only a sterling performance from Bachmann in goal stopped it being a cricket score. After his impressive showing against United, Dennis was back to his poor form. Sarr came in for a lot of criticism for the poor penalty, but his goal was a thing of beauty, and he was very close to scoring the winner.

With Covid restrictions now eased supporters were allowed to attend a match at Vicarage Road for the first time since December.

Official Site: Xisco Muñoz’s long-awaited introduction to the Watford faithful and the return of supporters into Vicarage Road didn’t coincide with an absolute classic on the pitch, but the occasion itself was more than worth it for both sets of fans who made the trip.

Troy Deeney’s second-half goal deepened West Brom’s relegation woes and piled the pressure on Alan Pardew as Watford continued their resurgence with a 1-0 win at Vicarage Road.

Not that the home supporters cared. Having roared with delight in response to a goal that lifts them up to ninth, they turned their attention to the opposition manager. It soon spread to the away end and all Pardew could do was stand motionless and look on. His suffering may soon be over.

Troy Deeney profited from a West Brom mistake, as Grzegorz Krychowiak gave away the ball in midfield and Will Hughes played in the Watford captain, who coolly clipped the ball over Ben Foster in the 77th minute.

But it was the arrival of Hughes that was the catalyst for the victory. As with Femenía’s return last week, the Spaniard missing ill today, it was gratifying that the transformative effect that injured players are inevitably imbued with in our mind’s eye had a basis in reality. Hughes announced himself with a resilient holding off of aggressive Albion attention, and then set about his nimble, clever, precise work from the right flank. It set a tone… Okaka was unlucky not to score, receiving Holebas’ cross, stepping across a challenge and slamming a low drive past Foster only to find Gibbs on the line.

Mariappa was in action at both ends of the pitch, flicking on a corner that didn’t quite reach Deeney and then clearing Rondón’s cross after Capoue had lost out in midfield.

Richarlison scored an injury-time equaliser as Watford came from two goals down to save a point at West Bromwich Albion.

Richarlison’s 94th-minute header earned Watford an unlikely point after coming back from two goals down against West Brom at The Hawthorns.

Watford’s winning run on the road has come to an end, although you would never have guessed so by the wild celebrations among the travelling supporters at the final whistle. This felt more like a victory for Marco Silva’s resilient side, who recovered from being 2-0 down inside 21 minutes against notoriously difficult opponents to salvage a thoroughly deserved point courtesy of yet another last-gasp goal from Richarlison.

West Brom were denied a first win in five Premier League matches after Richarlison’s header deep into added time salvaged a 2-2 draw for Watford at The Hawthorns.

Losing your voice. That’s the one. That’s when you know that it’s been a belter, that it’s been worthwhile. Lots of components make up an away day on and off the pitch… result, performance, excitement. Journey, company, food. Some of which might be more important to you and some less, but losing your voice, as a marker, trumps everything.

When the team news came through there was much discussion of the only change from the Swansea game as Deeney was chosen in place of the previous week’s goalscorer, Gray. To me the change made sense as, against a Pulis team, Deeney’s strength would be more important than Gray’s pace.
