BBC: Watford are still waiting for their first Premier League victory since 2007 after they were held to a goalless draw by West Brom. The Hornets dominated the match but could not break through a well-organised West Brom defence.

Sky: Quique Sanchez Flores’ team created numerous chances against Tony Pulis’ men, particularly in the first half of an entertaining game. But Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo were both among the culprits as they wasted those opportunities and had to settle for a point instead.

Fran’s Watford Blog: We could have won by 3 or 4 goals while West Brom were the epitome of a Pulis side, dour, negative and time-wasting from early in the game. Their large contingent of travelling fans deserved more from them than a performance in which they didn’t have a single shot on target. As I applauded the team off, my disappointment was tempered somewhat when I heard the bloke behind me say “undefeated”. On reflection, it had been another terrific performance from a team that will only get better. It was rather nice, for the second week running, to want to see us on Match of the Day and to hear positive comments from the pundits. Let us hope that is a feature of this season.

5th April 2010- Championship, Watford 1 West Bromwich Albion 1

Chris Brunt scored a dramatic equaliser five minutes into injury time to rescue West Brom and break Watford hearts. The relegation-threatened hosts looked set to claim a vital win after Danny Graham’s superb long-range strike with only five minutes left to play.

Malky Mackay’s team showed grit after losing their top scorer Tom Cleverley, who was taken off on a stretcher wearing an oxygen mask after being caught on the ankle by Jonas Olsson, then having Jon Harley sent off, to take the lead in the85th minute through Danny Graham’s 25-yard shot.

It was a tense affair from the start with Watford fighting to remain in the Championship and Albion knowing that, by this evening they could be back in the Premier League.

There was a point in the second half where the floodlights came on just as the sun came out. “What an odd day,” was the instinctive thought, which lead to the reflection that an odd day might be required in overturning our fifteen-year league hoodoo against the Albion. It didn’t quite happen, although the rueful “I’d take a draw from here” sentiment as Jon Harley departed was severely tested…

31st October 2009- Championship, West Bromwich Albion 5 Watford 0

West Brom went back to the top of the Championship with a clinical demolition of Watford at The Hawthorns.

Two goals in the first 18 minutes set the tone for the afternoon as the Baggies recorded their fifth home win of the season with room to spare.

3rd November 2007- Championship, Watford 0 West Bromwich Albion 3

West Brom ended Watford’s unbeaten home run this season by comprehensively outclassing the Championship leaders.

Watford’s big men were undone by Tony Mowbray’s more supple outfit, but the fact that both sides received standing ovations was an indication of the quality served up. They are both better than Derby.

If I had my way, I’d lock the muppets who cheered Mahon’s substitution up in a sealed room with the individuals in my neighbourhood who saw fit to release fireworks at midnight last night and throw away the key.  Protecting the gene pool from terminal stupidity, y’see.  The horror of the evolutionary potential of this sealed room is perhaps a concern, but in reality if its inhabitants ever worked out how to procreate the offspring would at least preserve the future of radio phone-ins.  Which in turn keeps Victoria Derbyshire off the programmes that anyone ever actually listens to.

BSADIt’s hard to believe that there are already so many what-ifs and might-have-beens so early in the season. Of course, some of those what-ifs and might-have-beens continue to over-shadow events on the pitch, making our last two results seem trivial by comparison…and yet it’s also obvious that, while the shadows would still remain, a win or two would add some valuable, vital sunshine to the picture.
