BBC: Derby thwarted Watford’s bid to go to the top of the Championship but remain without a win in seven matches after Odion Ighalo struck a late equaliser. Watford took the lead through Matej Vydra but were reduced to 10 men when Marco Motti tripped Johnny Russell in first-half stoppage time. Darren Bent levelled from the resulting penalty before fellow loanee Tom Ince put the hosts ahead after the break.

Fran’s Watford Blog: The whistle went to huge cheers from the travelling Hornets. The Derby players slumped to the ground, they needed 3 points from this game. Our lads were completely exhausted and I was trembling due to the stress of the previous 20 minutes. The players were given such a rapturous reception that you would have thought they’d won the game. Nobody seemed to want to leave the away stand, it was reminiscent of games in the 80s when we were kept in for 15 minutes after the final whistle. So we were all still there when Guedioura came over after receiving his man of the match award and was given a hero’s ovation and responded in kind.

22nd November 2014- Championship, Watford 1 Derby County 2

Derby went clear at the top of the Championship after Craig Bryson’s impressive strike from outside the area saw them win at Watford.

Win, lose or draw – and it turned out to be the middle option for Watford, you could argue Slavisa Jokanovic was a winner just for being on the touchline. In the previous two international breaks, Watford’s owners changed managers but the Serb survived this most recent break.

Derby were every bit as good as advertised, and whatever our mistakes or limitations it should be borne in mind that we still fashioned enough opportunities to have beaten lesser sides – indeed we’ve played if not worse then certainly as badly as this and won on several occasions this season.

Derby took the lead three times at Watford as they recorded their second successive Championship victory under new manager Steve McClaren.

The match got off to a pulsating start with both sides scoring inside the opening 12 minutes, Fernando Forestieri equalising after Jamie Ward’s opener.

The best aspect of this season thus far from our point of view has been the entertainment value. Twelve league games in, plus three in the League Cup… how many have been anything less than gripping? (Even if, admittedly, some of that excitement has been our own doing in situations where you’d prefer dull defensive competence). The opening fifteen minutes or so here were suitably mundane… Derby’s notorious vulnerability at corners was manifest and Essaid Belkalem ghosted in (or as close as a monstrous Algerian can get to “ghosting”) at the far post. He should have scored. Two minutes later and Jamie Ward, half Belkalem’s size and with what looked a tougher heading chance, outjumped his marker to put the Rams ahead from Bryson’s brilliant cross. Another five minutes and Fernando’s levelled it again with a gorgeous dink. Same old, same old.

Watford moved up to second in the Championship as striker Matej Vydra scored his 20th goal of the season.

Lloyd Doyley was simply born to play in that role on the right of a three, Nyron Nosworthy retains the happy habit of belting the ball into outer space when the need arises, Joel Ekstrand has evidently decided that he wants to be like them more than he wants to be like Neuton, which is the right choice.

BBC Sport: Derby thrashed a lacklustre Watford to secure their first home win in more than five months. Centre-back Richard Keogh glanced in a header and Jeff Hendrick also nodded home to give the Rams the upper hand. Conor Sammon chipped a delightful shot over keeper Manuel Almunia to extend Derby’s lead. Will Hughes and Jamie Ward both tapped in to put the game beyond doubt before Matej Vydra drove in a late consolation goal for Watford.

Sky Sports: Watford have been talked up as potential promotion contenders after a bright start to the Championship season under new boss Gianfranco Zola, but they were given a harsh lesson at Pride Park.

A superb strike from Steve Davies early in the second half was enough to give Derby a 1-0 win at Watford in the Championship on Saturday.

Steve Davies grabbed the only goal as Derby recorded their second successive league win at the expense of Watford. Davies scored his second of the season when he received the ball from Lee Croft 20 yards out and fired his effort into the roof of the net.

BHappy Report: For all the excitement of the season’s first home game, and with it a bunch of new kids to pick on or befriend, it takes about ten minutes for a certain weary familiarity to set in. Derby hang around the division like one of those odd jobs – the wonky cupboard door in the kitchen, the bit of painting in the spare room, the wisteria in need of a trim – that would only take half an hour but that you never quite get around to sorting out. In the latter case, the wisteria growing up the front of our house has got so carried away by the summer’s heady blend of sunshine and rain that anyone standing on our front steps for longer than a minute or two is liable to become so entwined that they may never escape. And that’s your introductory metaphor.

Artistic merit, shots, corners, passes, pretty much anything other than goals scored (and yellow cards) and we won this game handsomely.
