3rd May 2009- Championship, Watford 3 Derby County 1

Brendan Rodgers last programme notes. This was the game where John Eustace, a Watford player but on loan to Derby, played against us and scored.

Two goals from Grzegorz Rasiak helped Watford to a victory that was not quite as emphatic as the scoreline suggests.

OK, so final day of the season, not much to play for (save finishing above Palace, always nice…).  But given that… what a very fine way to end the campaign.  Nigel Clough’s assertion that the first goal was pivotal was probably fair enough – the game was wide open from the start – but the implication that the Rams were worth something woefully optimistic.

20th December 2008- Championship, Derby County 1 Watford 0

Rob Hulse’s late header secured Derby’s first win in seven league games as they overcame Watford at Pride Park. Both sides had plenty of chances, but a draw looked on the cards until Hulse’s winner seven minutes from time.

imgres.pngSubstitute Al Bangura grabbed a late goal to rescue a point for Watford.

Kevin Lisbie gave Derby the lead against the run of play when he raced onto Adam Bolder’s pass and trickled a low shot into the far corner.

Marlon King fired the Hornets level with a smart finish from 18 yards and later hit the post as the home side poured forward.

But Giles Barnes slid in to put the Rams ahead before Bangura made it 2-2 with a fine shot deep in injury-time.

BBC Sport: Watford came from behind to secure a controversial win at Pride Park.

Daily Telegraph, 30 Aug 2005
Independent, 30 Aug 2005

BSAD report: As the ball hit the net, Carlisle tore across the pitch with a red arrowhead of players in his wake and leapt into Boothroyd’s arms. The significance of the unity shown was unmistakeable, and in an early season crammed with warm and fuzzy, photo-album moments, this was the warmest and fuzziest of all: like a Furby in the microwave. There is some real team spirit here, despite the short time this side has been assembled, and I’d better learn not to fear for them too often with this kind of collective feeling.

BSAD imageBSAD report:I don’t know how many words there are in Icelandic for goal, but there must be quite a few for determination.

BSAD imageBSAD report:Unfortunately, my battle to scribble notes in a straight line in the rapidly failing light meant that I was looking down at my pad when Derby scored the equaliser, so I can’t tell you how it happened, except that it was, I think, Ian Taylor, from a rebound.
