BSAD image BSAD report: Blindly indulged every superstition available. Lucky shave, lucky boxer shorts, lucky shirt (unwashed during April and May – one man’s disgusting laziness is another’s inspirational magic), lucky view over Watford on the train, lucky programme seller. Qualified virtually every sentence with the phrase “If we make the playoffs…”, for fear of tempting fate. Some of these things are clearly stupid, but this was not the time for taking chances. Everyone was in superstition overdrive, Watford had its fingers crossed.

BSAD report:You know what I really hate? Juggling. Bloody rubbish. Just thought I’d mention it, like. The match? Well, it’s like soap operas, innit. For every Grant versus Tiffany blitzkrieg on Eastenders, there’s an episode of Dot and Ethel, petty squabbling, weak gags and general time-wasting. Watford fans have been able to gorge themselves on entertainment thus far and the first goalless draw, with Dot and Ethel in midfield, was long overdue.

BSAD report: The first weeks of the season have offered a microcosm of Division One. The majority, including the sides we’ve already beaten, are charitable enough both in missing and donating chances that we have nothing to fear. Then there are the serious contenders – the teams that punish errors, the teams that have dealt with us comfortably.

The mind boggles at what Watford can achieve this season if they can win games like this. Not so much under the cosh as buried deep beneath it for large periods of the match, the Hornets still managed to eke out a one-nil victory that puts them joint top of the first division, albeit at a stage too early to judge what their eventual league fate will be.

BSAD report: This is a long way from being a crisis, still some distance from being a slip-up of any consequence. But the fact remains that we haven’t played at all well for the first sixty or seventy minutes of our last two League games and, as a result, have had to rescue draws with slightly desperate comebacks. It’s obvious that we’re good enough to beat sides like York City, yet on Saturday we failed to work out how to beat them.
